A good friend of mine once described his sisters ballet thusly: Graceful Elephants.

Old school landing, make sure it's down.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

MRW I'm coming in dirty ... (it means 'flaps down', part of a normal landing sequence)

As a C-17 pilot, this bird can take a bitchin beatin

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Fuck yeah. Paint that bitch like Bullet Bill, land in style.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Agreed!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Hondajet. 420 kts

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

C-17 cruise speed is 450 knots, and has nearly double the range of the Hondajet.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I never knew a cargo plane could be so fucking sexy, the C-17 is though

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

It really is the most badass airplane ever made

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

That's my girl!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Was a c-17 crew chief while I was in the USAF. Beautiful flying computers

10 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

I am a sheet metal guy. Worked on theses And all I see is rocks into the belly of the AC and a lot of sanding and painting.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

this has been sped up. original here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJjbaofaISo

The unloading is more impressive than the landing. And that guy that sits on top of the helicopter is king!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

agreed brother

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Damn, that's a landing!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My grandfather was the chief engineer of the c-17

200 tons slamming into the dirt with the grace of a chubby ballerina. Beautiful.

"Look at you, sailing majestically through the air. Like an eagle. Piloting a blimp."

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

but enough about me...

10 years ago | Likes 94 Dislikes 0

"chubby ballerina" reminds me of those disney hippoes in the original Fantasia

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

have to wonder how sober the pilot was.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do you even FOD bro

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Look, I just tripped. No need to get poetic here

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In all fairness, that's about as graceful as it's gonna get.

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

joker approves this avant-garde portrayal of optimism vs crushing failure

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Holy shit, dude. The follow through! theRockimpressedandclapping.gif And how painful that would actually be. She done messed up sum shit!

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I feel like this is too fast. Maybe a touch and go? Not sure if they're capable of that.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Homies got real good at those quick landings. You could say that they had a lot of incentive to get out of the sky real fast.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Short runway. This plane was born for that.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Nah, it'll stop

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

The bottom flaps deflect the thrust downward to cushion the landing. Upon touchdown the top flaps are opened to reroute it forward/upward.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They experimented with dedicated jet/rocket engines to do it in even shorter distances. Takeoff as well. Worked well until it exploded.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

gif was sped up. original here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJjbaofaISo

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah he's really just easing it in at close to stall speed.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Pure poetry.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

FYI: C-17 - US Air Force cargo aircraft, commissioned / first purchased about 1990, now in wide use. Powerful engines, can land anywhere.

10 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 0

Thanks saucebot

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

OR IS IT? It could be a CC-177, which is, um... well, it's a C-17 with a grey maple leaf painted on the tail.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

C-17 is the C-130's bloated cousin.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I live near WPAFB and I see these all the time. While airborne, they have the look of something that doesn't belong in the air.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Like the Vogon Constructor Fleet, they "Hung in the air exactly the way that a brick doesn't."

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Taking off again sometimes is an issue if she's still cargo laden.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Correct; take off is optional, landing is mandatory

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Hey, can always have another one fly over and push a JATO kit out the back if need be.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just make sure you've got the right airstrip/airport http://www.flyingmag.com/news/cause-c-17-landing-too-small-airport-revealed

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Except water, and anything not a cleared runway.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Looks like another one bites the dust.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

and they had me doing FOD walks looking for pebbles...

10 years ago | Likes 85 Dislikes 0

Good Ole FOD walks

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Oh, the dreaded 2 hour fod walks

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

then security forces drives right through the fod check points anyway...

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Night crew for life haha no FOD WALKS

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lucky you. I was on Night shift the whole time. They would make us stay after work and do them.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh god, scouring that Tarmac for hours looking for stuff that wasn't ever there.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Like the mythical golden bolt, if you find it you get a day off.... (nobody ever found it)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

golden bolt became a fod hazard when QA forgot where they put it....

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I liked the version with the rockets on it better...

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

That was the C-130, entirely different plane

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

*Googles* Ahh fuck, I can't believe I've done this. This is a C17, isn't it?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

they are amazingly tough birds.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Rode one into and out of theater on deployment... pretty sweet ride

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My Dad was a Nav on C-130 gunships (Spectre) among other things for many years. I grew up on airbases appreciating the bigger birds.

I do strategically timed controlled bursts throughout the day.

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

You're taking the art of farting to a new level. Sharing is caring.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That's the best comment I've ever read..a fart. A get home joke.you've got talent my friend or got real lucky..n e ways the world's yours

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Man, I just take care of that as soon as my ass touches the seat of my car.

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Why are you holding it in? Take a stroll and crop dust.
