Obama appointed him on the recommendation of Mitch McConnell (R), because it's tradition to appoint one minority-party commissioner. He was only appointed for 5 years (which is expiring) and Trump has re-appointed him for another 5.

DO NOT BE SURPRISED when he doesn't give a SINGLE FUCK if millions of people write the FTC. He will just say they aren't valid. You should probably call your congressman.
