My wife was diagnosed with breast cancer a few months ago. She had a double mastectomy about six weeks ago. On her third chemo treatment. She asked me about my razor so I offered to help. It ended up being a good family moment where me and my kids helped her shave her head. We laughed and the kiddos got into it. But it also made all this feel really real. There were plenty of “real” moments so far. Her mammogram result. The diagnosis. Hearing the doctor say it could be stage 2 or stage 4 based on the staging scan. Seeing her for the first time without breasts. But for some reason this was the hardest. Just need to throw it out to the void that is user sub. #fuckcancer

Fuck cancer. I hope only the best for you and all of your family.

I helped shave my moms (i was already bald so we laughed that we finally looked a like)....didn't get to shave my dads. Stage 4 pancreatic and passed a month later, will be 1 year in a few weeks.

I had to shave my head last year, too. It’s crazy how much I identified with my beautiful curly hair. My husband shaved me, too. It’s back!! A year later and it looks like a 50s pin up doll. Stay strong. This too shall pass.

My wife's hair is so thick that it falls out if it is too long. It fell during chemo, but grew back fine and baby soft. Within a year it went back to thick strands as usual. Weird.

Best wishes for you and your wife. I know from experiance cancer isn't easy to deal with, I've beat it myself. Just be there for the family and enjoy each other.

My mother went through best cancer twice. I understand the feeling the first time seeing her without her breast. Your whole family should get into therapy, especially your wife. Also a stong support system from family and friends. My mom had my great aunt live with us the first time, helped a lot and I was only 10 at the time.

My mom asked me to shave her head after she started chemo. It was remarkably emotional, but we laughed, too. You have to.

It's painful. First time I had to do it was rough. My Dad shaved it off. The second time my now ex wife shaved it off. Third time I just had a nurse do it. I'm okay now, but man, I'm sorry you and your spouse are having to deal with all this. I promise you she's cherishing every ounce of help she's getting from you whether or not she's able to communicate it. Best of luck to both of you, I understand how hard it can be on family dynamics, but you've done great so far, you'll be able to do this.

My Mom got some amazing headscarves and wigs, think rainbow coloured long hair wigs. She had a real laugh with some of the more outrageous ones we found. She also found her head got really cold during and after a chemo treatment, so useful too. There's a Jamaican clothes store near me that has glorious scarves. Check out your local area. for African themed shops. They may also be able to show her how to wear them and turn a negative into a positive

My wife had a double mastectomy last year due to stage 1. One of the surgeries that also goes along with this is hysterectomy because the loss of hormones makes the risk for ovarian cancer very high, so now we just got done doing that too. Best advice I can say is just be there and handle all the little things so your wife doesn't have to do anything but heal.

I did he same for my wife. She passed away from Ovarian Cancer 3 weeks ago after a 2 1/2 year fight. I hope for the best for you.

My wife is a survivor. Be supportive...lots of these feelings never go away. Which is good in a way. Much more appreciative of every moment.

A few days after my wife's chemo for cervical cancer, her hair started to fall out. I took it all off with a hair clipper. She didn't like her wig; wore a hat instead. Hysterectomy eliminated her libido. I found other ways to spoiler her or make her happy, like cake and ice cream. Appreciate that woman as much as you can and do whatever it takes to keep her out of the pine box. Good luck.

>10 years cancer free. The anti-nausea meds worked very well. She never got sick, but did lose weight as she had no appetite.

I was 19 and my hair had finally gotten long enough to match my mom's when she was diagnosed. After she shaved her head Dad called me the designated long hair of the family. 30 years later and I've still haven't had a haircut.

I’ve shaved my head as a sharp often but also in support for battlers of C. Even grew my curls out for Locks of love to a man bun just to shave and donate. It’s nothing compared to what others battling C go through. Lost many loved ones in many tribes to the C, but all were lovers of life until the end. And that’s why we keep fighting I guess.

There's a lovely IG model who has alopecia, Chloe Bean (@chl0ebean), I like to follow just for her wonderful, inclusive content re being beautiful bald. She's just nice, ya know?

I think all of us on here will keep our fingers crossed for stage two. Not even sure what stage two is, but I know what stage three is, so I’m hoping stage two is more manageable and less likely to come back.

My wife is almost 11 years in remission. It was absolute hell just watching her go through it. I wish I didn’t but I get it. Shaving her head for her was surreal and I still choke up a bit thinking about it. She handled everything with a dignity and grace I couldn’t muster on my bestest of days. I hope everything goes as well for you two as it did for us. Fuck cancer right in the asshole with an unlubed cactus.

My grandma had breastcancer at 80, survived but at 90 she started getting back pain and kept asking doctors to check it, they didn't. At 93 last winter her lungs filled themselves with liquid and that's when they took and xray of that and saw also that she had cancer in her spine that made it also go to her lungs. She gave up after that and died in February.
So please if after some years she gets pain in her back pls force the doctors to check for cancer there. And I'm sorry.
