Today's message from Pippin: "Peekaboo! [Existential conure screaming]"
____
1) Are you on the run to a safe place and passing through Arizona on your way to safer grounds? My apartment is open to you to crash at, and it is a safe space. Pippin and I will make you a meal and gladly share tea, wine, or mead with you.

2) Hey! Take your meds with a full glass of water, please. Do it for Pippin, or Space Mom, or better yet, do it for yourself.

3) Ĝefeloað wē. We will carry on.

4) all funds from the sales of items at these two links will be sent to support charities aiding to fight for Trans rights in the US (not just T-shirts!)

#2 I know it's just a joke but I get so tired of people acting like the outcome of a game really matters more than real life.

#27 AMAZING! 😍 I never knew I needed this Lizzo/mushroom crossover until this very moment

I go to a hippy- pastor church.

And I just might write that Susan fanfic. Always pissed me off that she got booted from Narnia for *checks notes* wearing lipstick and liking boys

#14 I feel like this extends to art in general. Anyone with actually amazing talent is accused of AI and it's super fucking sad

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Cody, there's always at least one meme in here that makes me truly laugh. Thank you.

You're welcome

#6 Im fairly certain the blue-ringed octopus doesn't have a shell

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It evolved from shelled ancestors

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

So did lots of things, you aren't a shelled creature unless you HAVE A SHELL.

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's still taxonomically in the same family.

#35 think of the oceanic trade networks and canals that could be built on a Camberian period Earth! It was wasted on the mollusks, the Phoenicians would have loved it

#13 We had a guy like that at my first and last corpo gig. We, aka the other guys, gave him a fair warning, that if he didn't clean his stuff up, we'd stuff everything in a trash bag and just toss that on his desk.

He laughed. We did that. He went crying to HR. HR told him that keeping common spaces clean was in his contract. We didn't have to do it any more. Just as well, because HR told us it was hilarious but also against our contracts. Corpo world sucks.

If corpo won't look after things the the workers will. The thing that assholes never seem to grasp is that there is always a bigger asshole, and they will bring FRIENDS. So don't be an asshole.

#13 fuck, if we so much as drink water out of a bottle my safety manager posts reminders of the lab rules department wide!

I'm the borderline prophetic autistic friend and it is infuriating. I keep seeing all the horrors before they come but no one believes me!

2 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Same. I was online for the birth of Facebook, and of YouTube. I never joined Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, bluesky, any of it. I grew up with "the internet is not a source" before Wikipedia wasn't a source. Now the AI hallucination Google forces on you is taken as gospel by the same people. What the fuck happened.

As always, your dumps are immaculate

If I’m ever in Arizona, I’d like to catch a service with you. I haven’t been in a church that has wizards; when I was religious, mine were banking professionals

#12 I love her. I have a diorama on my desk.

#23 That may be, but I'll never forgive him for making Narnia a polemic. Jesus already had a fursona, Clive, and it wasn't a goddamn lion!

2 months ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 2

Eh, he had multiple fursonas. Lion of Judah / Lamb of God. I’m sure there were others — he encouraged his followers to be both serpents and doves.

2 months ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

And I'll never forgive him for hyping Turkish delight. Goddamn what a disappointment.

2 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

While it's not my favorite either, it is critical to keep in mind Edmund's WWII-era sugar-rationed perspective

2 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It's very possible you genuinely don't like it, but it's also VERY common to find bad Turkish delight in the wild. Partially because freshness matters a lot with jelly products, and it's generally imported.

It comes in a LOT of forms, and the varieties that are less soft handle import better. So heavier on nuts, dried fruits, and leaning into a chew. I.e Gullouglu on Amazon

For soft stick to a confectioner, or grab an american variant like applets and cotlets (PNW REPRESENTTTT)

2 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I despise the more traditional Turkish delight I’ve had because I can’t stand the taste of rose water. But goddamn are applets and cotlets good.

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Fuuuuck, Aplets & Cotlets are so good.

#35 US has a whole continent to railroad network and the map looks like it got Botoxed. Don't ask for the main course when you barely nibbled the starters!

2 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Our system was designed using tracks designed for the transportation of heavy goods. As such, we have a ton of curves and elevation changes within them that would straight up derail any attempt to get high speed on. This is why high speed rail needs its own line.

2 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

High speed also needs to be operationally its own line for timetables and capacity. No successful high speed system has simply reused existing track.

#14 I wrote a letter of recommendation for someone yesterday. I felt that I needed to explicitly say I did not use AI to write any part of it - especially because I love the dash and the ; and use both often.

2 months ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 0

I have noticed that ChatGPT tends to use the dash in a very particular way. It uses the long version of it too, not the normal one you use on the keyboard next to the equal sign. You wouldn't normally use that unless you're opening up Character Map or memorize its alt code.

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

On a Mac, en-dash is option-dash, and em-dash is shift-option-dash. On mobile, just hold down dash for more options. I use them occasionally — when warranted.

2 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Most word processors automatically convert double dash to em dash. LaTeX also has it on a simple macro. Plenty of people use it trivially without either hand leaving the keyboard.

How do we know this comment wasn't AI?

2 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

That depends. Who is "we".

2 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Nice deflection, nobody will notice you're the AI now..!

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

something something like tears in the rain

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

See, this right here proves you're not AI, because an AI would get the quote right.
