It’s been awhile since Snoopy and Joe passed away, only two weeks apart.
I was pretty numb about Joe because Snoopy left me so hollowed out.
Snoopy was special, we saved him from being shot by his previous owners because they found him to “aggressive” but really it was from the neglect of the parents, and abuse from their children.
Everyone told me to be wary around him, they said he wasn’t friendly, that he would most likely bite me. After being told this for the hundredth time I said “If he bites me, he bites me, and if he does, we’ll go from there, and if he doesn’t; great!”
They had him in the backyard, without hesitation I walked to the a yard, he was looking at the sky, didn’t see me till I called his name, he stood up, and we just looked at one another.
I crouched down, reached my hand out, and said “aren’t you a handsome boy, come here”
As he wobbles over I was prepared for him to bite me, but I wasn’t worried, as he smelled my hand I could hear everyone getting tense behind me, finally when he was done...he just looked at me, and finally he started wiggle his butt, and ran into my arms.
Everyone was shocked, and we fell in love with one another instantly.
We walked everyday, he was overweight, from his previous owners over feeding him, we would walk till he was tired, I would then pick that 50 pound beagle up, and walk us home.
You know the worst part? I didn’t even cry when he died, I love that dog, and I couldn’t even squirt out a single tear? And the worst, worst part is I didn’t get to say goodbye because of this fucking pandemic!
I don’t expectant anyone to read this, maybe I just wanted to post this somewhere as some sorta of twisted remembrance?
I honestly feel like I’ll never get another dog again, I can’t imagine it...
I don’t want to fall in love again.
Tyneedic
They wouldn't want you to never have another dog. Just the opposite. Was in a similar situation 3 years ago. 2 months later i got 2 more
ZucchiniBobbini
It was a week before I cried after my cat died. Process it as it comes, sending love <3
Tyrlosthishandtofinrir
It's been a year and a half since I lost my girl, I'm only now able to treat my boy like he deserves again. It's hard when they leave.

I get that when I shut the AC off in late fall. I feel that.

I’m so sorry for your loss

All Hail Snoopy and Joe! Two amazing dogs who brought light to your life! May you find joy and happiness again to honor their memories.
bearsareawesome
Sincerest condolences. I lost my beloved cat Pepper last week. It’s hard. You’re a good person, rescue another one and it will rescue you.

He was HUGE when we met, I’m always shocked when other their pets get that big!
XplodingUnicornGlitter
I lost my dog in April to cancer, and my cat on Halloween to kidney failure. I completely understand. But you can't close your heart off 1
XplodingUnicornGlitter
To other animals. Snoopy and Joe wouldn't want you to do that. Love again for their sake. I'm so sorry. 2/2

They come into our lives and share with us their whole being leaving us better but hurting.
Calum122
Death has to be easy, cause life is hard.
arkthan
you wont like this, but get another one right away.
SpicyNoobles
I can’t, and also, I won’t. I just feel to hollow, everything that could go wrong has been going wrong, ya know?
arkthan
i know, but there is another dog out there that needs you as much as you need it.
mattbl
I'm so sorry for your loss.
PiccChicc
Same w/ my cat. Died @ 22 years of age nearly three years ago. I'm still not over it and it hurts so much. I'm sorry for your loss & pain
dantethetemplar
Shits fuckin hard op. I had to have my cat put to sleep two years ago and i've been pretty fucked up over it. Everyone keeps trying to 1/
dantethetemplar
Push me to get another cat. I feel the same way you do. I don't want to go through that again.

I've been there. Dogs and cats. It's hard every time. Wife still doesn't want to get a dog again, and I get it.
ShadyPines12
I just had to put down my 15 year old cat. I miss her more than anything in the world

#1 this hit home. We lost our Keiko almost exactly 3 weeks ago. It wrecked us. I know what you mean about not wanting to fall in love again.

Snoopy recognized your beautiful soul. Our hearts ache with yours. The ball is big today, but it won't always be.

What the hell does it take to make a -beagle- aggressive?
SpicyNoobles
Having children throw rocks and poke at him with sticks, yell at him, while in a cage, and over feeding apparently...
chalaheadchala
Every time I think I want to get a new dog, I remember how we stayed out for hours after the vet because we didn't want to go home [1]
chalaheadchala
into an empty place. When we finally did, I sat on the couch and bawled as my partner packed up all our little guy's belongings. [2]
chalaheadchala
I don't think I could ever endure that heartbreak again.
emittto
Why you gotta do this to me... It hit me right in the feels, I bawled my eyes like a child. Went and terrorized my cat with kissies and hugs
dryrunner
The pain of the loss can only ever be a fraction of the joy they brought you. Remember them fondly.
forscience6686
And get another
TheOneWhoWasLeft
Once you're ready.
Cr4zyC4tLady
I 100% advocate for immediately getting another. You’re not replacing them, bc there will never be the same love/personality twice. But 1/
Cr4zyC4tLady
They absolutely always help with the mourning and loneliness process! Grief doesn’t always have to be total pain all the time. 2/2
TheOneWhoWasLeft
Everyone grieves at their own pace. Everyone knows when they are ready again.

jesus my whole body started shaking and my bottom lip started doing this quivering thing. Why would you do that?! And who's cutting onions?

Damn, these onions I'm chopping...

Four years since griffin passed. I could not love again. A rescue came to us six months ago. He is amazing. Four years old. The time it took

Me to open my heart again, he spent alone on the streets.

Ok, now I'm bawling.

Emotions!!! You stop that!

Every time I see this I feel like it’s my childhood dog Mason “The Alarm” saying it to me. I miss ol buddy.
Calicious
I have a large breed dog who is almost at his life expectancy. I'm terrified. My dogs are the thread that holds my mental health together.
bluemagister
If they really are the sole thread keeping you from losing it, imagine them watching over you from the other side & don't let them be sad.
Calicious
If I start believing in the other side then I’ll know I’ve lost all grip on reality.
EvilKrikkit
Hey. I am so sorry. But I just learned something about this. My cat died. I loved her so much, she was with me for 15 years. I wanted to not
retroman688
Same. Put my 15 year old Tuxedo to sleep (seizures from hidden UTI). Got her when I got married.
EvilKrikkit
get a pet again. But there was a kitten that needed a home because her owners didn't want her and locked her outside. I took her in, and
EvilKrikkit
I know that someday she'll have to leave me too, but I'll have made her life so much better. So, I owe it to my first cat to take care of
EvilKrikkit
the next.
BellicoseAlgorithm
World needs more "hoomans" like you. My girl was with me for 24yrs. Hurts like hell, but I've still love to share with kittens who need it.
thefavoritesbookmark
Don’t we all? Help them find a hone with love and shelter. That’s the best we can give to all pets out there
evilcoffeechick
Mine saved me every day. 13 years. I couldn't save her. I know I'll fail again. Their forever is not ours.
TheHolyFatman
The greatest way to honor our beloved pets memories is the rescue another and give them the gift of life in a loving home.
Cr4zyC4tLady
I always make a point to adopt a new kitten/pup when the other is getting up there in years, the older one will teach the younger one, and
Cr4zyC4tLady
When the older one passes, the younger one is still there to help you mourn. And then so on! It helps in a way that I can’t even explain!
AlmightyThor117
Exactly this, I’ve had a dog ever since I was born, I learned very early that they all will die, but that’s not the important part, what 1/?
AlmightyThor117
2/? is important is the life and love you gave them and what they gave back, when one pet passes on, it’s nothing more than the opportunity
CatLadyLvl2
Until the kitten part I thought I had found (on imgur) my friend who lost his 15 yo kitty Friday
EvilKrikkit
No. She died several months ago.
