Lore was technically a better functioning version of Data. Lore had more features, was more human, had a robust personality and self driven innovation that didn't simply copy human behaviors but built upon them. unfortunately this also made him a 100% bastard. turns out making a more human robot also makes them a dickhead with superhuman abilities.

I don’t know if it was done on purpose, but it’s the kind of person he could have been, especially considering his arrogance as a kid, but he learned humility and selflessness.
He is the type of leader who is immune to bribery, because there’s nothing he wants that could be used as a bribe.
You can see it occasionally in politicians (do you think it would be possible to bribe Bernie, for instance?) but it’s rare. Makes for great TV heroism though.

yeah, I actually got to read some of the early series documents (writer's room memos, casting calls, character bios) in an archival job - Kirk being the galactic "fuck da rules, fetch me a coffee sugar tits" casanova was NEVER the intent of his character - though there's definitely some "oof 60s" sexism.

Bizarrely, the character that is the 60's sexist is.... Spock. He frequently talks how women are 'more scared' than men, treats nurse Chapel awfully and so on, whereas Kirk was friendly with all his exes, respected the hell out of their jobs and even told Gary X about boundaries and respecting a 'No'. Dude was way ahead of his time.

There's a lot of fun shit, including scripts - reading the script of "This Side of Paradise" makes Spock's deal even more heartbreaking as the writer really gets into his head.

#2 I consider myself both a Stark Trek fan and a Star Wars fan. I like Star Trek for brightness of it and for what is possible for mankind. I like Star Wars because laser swords, space magic, pirates and smugglers and criminal under world and a clear defined enemy. And i totally agree with this poll.

But the fact that they are in Target and Walmart says that there will be vastly more Star Wars t-shirt than there are Star Trek t-shirts, meaning Star Trek t-shirt wearing fans do more to seek them out and are therefore more hardcore. Yeah, ST was one of the first (if not _the_ first) fandoms with an actual fanfic community, and as such, the writers needed a way to quickly tell the readers what their story was about, creating a foundation for the various shorthands and tags used by fanfic sites. One of them was a way to announce to the reader which characters were in the story and what their relationship was - a plus (Kirk+Spock) meant the characters were friends; a slash (Kirk/Spock) meant they were lovers.

And because most of the characters were men, the main way of getting romance in these stories was either using an original character (typically a self insert; relatedly, this is also where the term "Mary Sue" comes from, since A) majority of fanfic writers were women, often young and without significant writing experience, and B) so many of these SIs were just so gosh darn perfect in every single way) or shipping two male characters in a gay romance, the term "slash" has gained the connotations
