I think when the IMF, World Bank, the E.U and the U.N finally have to put together a rescue package for the USA that election reform has to be at the core of it. This is why local and state elections and primaries are so important. They get the people you want up on the stage. But if the person you want isn't up there, you don't just go home. How did they become the candidate? Keeping the democratic party up to snuff was a responsibility of voters as well, but the purity police of the 2000s kept a crop of leftists too afraid to shake hands with the establishment, and the Dems lost their fire. I remember the late Obama years when we were still in Iraq, still killing civilians, and still not putting bankers in jail and what would have been progressive candidates dropped out because moral purity was more important to them than praxis.
