I used to think that was just my grade school...
Rangrok
I didn't find the pacer that bad... You just run until you're tired and then sit for the rest of the day.
AssamLaksa
That sounds fun at first, until it gets faster and faster.
illegalacorn
I had no idea it was coming the first time, 7th grade. FUCK. I think i made 18 rounds... next year I was ready. 52.
theofficialseraphim
As a kid I made it to the maximum amount of laps, which was 80 for me. I can't comprehend the hell of doing more than that.
IPostRandomComments
Test your VO2, love that test
thecoffeeisabomb
I was the kid who either refused to do it or walked it and got eliminated immediately. I just really really hated PE.
MimzytheBun
We had a whole pack of kids who just walked it, and feinted sadness when they were illuminated on the 3rd beep.
"Oh no. How sad."
YorkRaccoon
I remember one year they actually gave us a grade for it and a minimum of 40 was required for 100%.
kalderag
This kills the student.
RoseyRose
You guys only had to do that part of the fitness gram? Chinups, crunches, dolphin pointing, and the bleep test. Marching band memories.
2020Gamer
At my high school it was tradition for the seniors to try and fail the pacer as hard as possible. It was amazing.
darearkin
WHY. WHY WOULD YOU REVIVE MEMORIES OF THIS. WE HAD THIS AT MY SCHOOL TOO AND IT WAS FUCKING HELL.
44no44
I don't understand all the hate over the beep test. Most of my classmates would just stop after round 1 without trying; I was alone by 10.
... Somehow 'not trying' didn't enter into our minds. We just ran until we felt like we were gonna die.
NiceLegsDaisyDukesMakesAMAAANOUTOFYOOOUUUU
I read this for the first time a year ago. It was like a flashback from THE VERY PITS OF TARTARUS.
joshyjosh
Fuck the pacer
BladeBraver83
At my school we called them suicide runs.
Yeee5
In high school soccer, we called these "suicides."
miraglo
Suicides had three lines you had to touch with increasing distance for soccer, whereas the beep test just had two lines for us.
Ah this is true. It's been a while for me. Both sound ridiculous.

I think my favorite thing about this post is about half the world just came together in the comments for a mutual hate for P.E running :P

Simply called the beep test here. The "it's ok to vomit we don't judge" day
GETOFFIMGURANDDOYOURWORKRIGHTNOW
At uni camp we did the beep test with cups of beer on one side and milk on the other. Needless to say, the lawn was covered in vomit after..
We were literally told that by our instructors.
Rozilla
The test was stupid. A whole course where no endurance was taught, then taking a test on endurance? It always caused me to get a bad cold.
Postgradconfused
I was a chubby kid and I worked my ass off after being embarrassed doing this and haven't looked back. +1 For repressed memories
Squanch
Same boat, nice weather eh?
SteveCraft
There was a chubby kid in my class. Someone said a Twinkie had been set for the winner and I swear he ran a little faster.

Ugh, that was always my favourite gym day. We did it at leat three times a year, sometimes more. I miss it
IAmNotASkeleton
There are ways to replicate it. You just need to plant a bamboo shoot in the ground and have someone restrain you over it.
What is wrong with you.
dougiefresha
I always found it fun too, wanted to keep pushing myself
UnDumb
Or there was the sit-ups. Up down up down up down, 72 of each no stopping
I could do 200 sit-ups no problem but these killed me
Yeah the problem with these was the really long pauses, and that fact she droned on and on.
and my boobs and the fact that I have asthma
TheRicM
I've never done this nor heard of this. It seems very cruel
It's quite cruel. The out of shape/chubby filter quickly, average last a bit. Athletes run endlessly.
CopperWench
I was athletic enough as a kid, but I also had to learn to cope with asthma attacks in PE because nobody clued in that I can't breathe.
At 25 a doctor asked me how often I was using my puffer, and having one 20years earlier would have fucking helped!
And now that I finally have one, I forget to use it before sports. At least I got good at not dying! Thank you, school!
And not a healthy or safe thing to push. Why???! Why do it?!
Agreed, seems pretty negligent
At that point I feel like you should have to sign a consent form. Not cool.
Exactly. I played organized sports and on the school teams and this sort of thing never happened
RSKenshin
This is what made realize my potential as a cross country runner. I went for so long the kids didn't cheer my victory, they caused my defeat
TheOneWhoLikesRunning
Same here! My future steeple chase coach was my elementary gym teacher. "You thought I was gonna let you play anything else?" - gym teacher
Ronnystigs92
Rugby coach had us do this once at the start of the practice season... Once just before the season starts. Hated it as a child... Still do.
You either sit down a hero, or run long enough to see yourself become a villain.
SkyeRise
We had a push up and sit up test like this..God it was horrible. I still hear her voice. Up. Down. Up. Down.
As I crossed the line. The beep sounded, I turned and kept running as the other students yelled, "you didn't cross the line! Sit down!"
Which I then got flustered, and didn't make the next beep as I was trying to argue while running.
ayoexo78
