Joined the sterile club!

Background: After turning 30, my uterus went rogue. I've always had heavy periods but now I was taking multiple days off work for pain. I've never wanted kids so I asked my doctor for a referral to an OBGYN for an opinion on tying my tubes.

To my surprise, the OBGYN gave no fuss or lectures (and I'd come prepared to fight for this!). She said that I seemed to have made up my mind, and that it was her job as a medical professional to guide me through making informed decisions.

She did say that tying my tubes wouldn't actually affect my periods, so recommended a hormonal IUD instead. However, I have had issues with hormonal birth control in the past, so we agreed to double up - salpingectomy for the sterility and the IUD to regulate hormones.

Redundant? Maybe. Kids? Nope.

Post-op. They gave me some pretty good drugs and my partner said it took a while for colour to come back into my face after anaesthesia.

I'm a couple days post-op now. Pain has been extremely minimal and I actually had to double check a few times that I actually have stitches in my belly because it doesn't really feel like much happened. Definitely feel a little sore but not much else.

Here's to not having kids or crippling period pain!
