Those are called vanes not feathers. The Type in the pic are a "Spin wing vanes" The curve adds a rotation to the arrow that stabilizes it.

If you are having trouble bending your wrist while shooting use a doorframe and press your Hand against it and turn your wrist 1/2
Like when you are shooting. For some beginners it is easier to practice this isolated.
