Explanation: The Ogryn (Homo sapiens gigantus) are a huge and physically powerful Abhuman mutant subspecies of Humanity, often employed by the Imperium of Man as shock troopers in the Astra Militarum's Militarum Auxilla.
Ogryns possess many traits prized by the Imperium; they are brutally strong and completely loyal, although extremely limited intellectually, which restricts their battlefield role to simple and direct assaults.
They hail from a series of cold and barren planets across the galaxy that possess high gravity, such as Anark Zeta, which is why they appear larger, heavier and bulkier compared to baseline Humans.
Fun Fact: Most believe that all Ogryn are low in intellect and that none are psykers, but at least one has shown an intellect of, at least, normal level and psyker powers in the book Ghazghkull Thraka: Prophet of the Waaagh! by Nate Crowley (https://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Ghazghkull_Thraka:_Prophet_of_the_Waaagh!_(Novel))

I was reading through my 2E Orks codex the other day, and apparently you used to be able to take Ogryn in your Ork army.

Yeah. Early editions of 40k were heavily invested in the rp aspects, and the more modern interpretations didn't really come in until 3-5 editions. Ogryn embody most of the virtues orks respect - big, uncomplicated, won't fall over when you hit them, and hit back twice as hard.

Ogryn hate confined spaces, and are always reticent to get into APCs/Tanks/Fliers et all. So one particularly wounded commanded told his Ogryn to get the Medicae kit from the land raider that had been rendered inoperable, rather than risk going inside the small cramped box he.... just dragged the entire tank over to his wounded commander.

I mean if you're strong enough to do that, why not bring the whole vehicle? Sure you get the medical kit, but you also get a lot of cover, whatever other supplies can be salvaged, and maybe some mounted guns as well.

I want a heist story where the Blood Ravens are trying to steal from the Alpha legion, who is trying to infiltrate the Blood Ravens, and shenanigans ensue. Vulkan is there at some point too.

The part about WH40K that kind of cracks me up in a morbid way is that the main value put on races, characters, etc is how good of a combat unit they are. Obv it's a combat game. But it's hilarious to think of characters in the game going to an unemployment office, and the first question they ask is "what's your combat duties?" And there's like janitors, chefs, etc out there all doing it as side gig work until called to duty to leverage their main combat job..even if the job is fodder

Write bad fan fiction! Editing is for later, or other people, or whatever, fuck the editing, we can edit when we're dead and dumb.
The ONLY bad writing is writing that you didn't put on the page. The only way to fail as a writer is to not put words on a page. Also, there are chucklefucks out there with a 10th you skill using AI to write literal porn. Trust, anything you make is miles better than the majority of people will ever put to paper.

As someone working on getting their first book completed...
Write it. It'll probably be bad fan fiction at first. That's okay.
Rewrite it. Start to finish. Take what you've learned on your first draft to improve.
Then read it aloud, change words and sentence structure where it doesn't sound right.

The first draft doesn't need to make sense to anybody but you. It's there to get your ideas onto paper/into a document, not to be ready for publication right then and there.
