An Atlas a day!

Aug 7, 2026 2:34 PM

One more Maine throwback. I’m in Boston for pre-op stuff and I miss him.

When I got here, they asked if I had anyone in the waiting room and I said no. When they started the appointment, they asked who would be with me the day of surgery and I said nobody.

I’m really scared. I’m really sad. And I’m really alone. My heart is broken by spending the summer believing someone who said they loved me and wanted to help me through this just to bail on me the week before. I hate people. Nobody is safe. Nobody is real.

Good luck @OP
I hope things work out for you. I'm a loner by choice so it's not exactly the same, but times like this really show you how strong you can be. You got this. Take comfort in the people at the hospital that show you kindness. Most health care workers are very empathetic especially if they know you're scared and alone. Please keep us posted.

You got this. As someone with a family history of "weird" conditions that doctors don't believe. Boston was the only place that took me serious and was actually able to save my life, where my local DR would have killed me.

Boston's big enough where they should have seen all the non-standard stuff. That doesn't mean you don't have to stay on top of them. The amount of times they tried to prescribe me medications that I was intolerant of was astounding.

Atlas is always with you - he's probably thinking about you right now

I need a shoulder replacement, I can’t sleep due to pain. Finally switched doctors and after a year of pain I’m having surgery. The form asked for emergency contact. I gave the name of a friend whose sole responsibility would make sure my pet was fed. I asked if I could take an Uber home after surgery. Their stunned look told me no.

We are with you. I went through a similar situation with a surgery in 2019, when an internet friend drove 4 hours to help me because no one local was willing or available. We send love. You’ve got this!

Wishing you the best. Hope you find help from friends and neighbors during these times. And hey, you know we're here for the moral support :)

I'm so sorry you have to go through this without support (other than Atlas). I can't offer much help in the physical world, as I live on the other side of the globe (well sort of, anyway). I find it so shamefull, that people can act like the.person you describe. Not being in love is one thing, but abandoning at the lowest of times is just... A DM is cool if you need to vent or talk outside of public space. I wish you the very best of luck.
