Met someone who would use methylated spirits to make sliders from bottlenecks for his 12 string guitar. Hipster before there were hipsters

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Out of curiosity, how many glasses could you buy with the money required to purchase this device?

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You know they sell proper glasses at places called "stores", right?

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

pretty cool. pricey but cool.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not for $60....

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Note - this is NOT a good way to open a full bottle. it doesnt end well. I tried.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

And every drink you serve in them tastes like despair...

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As seen on TV: New old shite from Ronco!

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Ron Popeel here, Do you like to make Jerky, dried fruits, and anything else dried? Well buy this huge item that won't fit in any cupboard.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I have one. It's harder than it looks. Still working on getting the technique down.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don't use the rubber rings. Fill the bottle with hot water and lower it into bucket of cold. Score should open right up.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thanks for the tip, I'll try that.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or just use string soaked in lighter fluid...

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I would feel slighted somehow, unless everyone was given a piece of garbage to drink from.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Masi Valpolicella! Yay, Italian wines!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My favourite wine!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But I actually want to get the deposit that I get from those bottles.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

..and cut your lips off on the jagged edge

Sanding

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

...is for pussies

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That product is totally crap. One of my colleagues tested it with two of his friends... only 1 or 2 of 10 bottles could be cut properly...

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have one. Once it took a bajillion tries to get it to work properly, it was awesome and we made all our wedding centerpieces with it

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

So did you have to do it like, 100 bajillion tries to get all the glasses?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't drink, but I think I need one of those. Too bad it cuts only circular ones... :\

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Soak your water in bottles!!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

$49.99 for those interested

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I do that with salsa jars

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why is everyone in this so bad at pouring beer?!

10 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

I have this, the success is low but when it works it's amazing, lots of work to have a nice rim job

10 years ago | Likes 56 Dislikes 0

Yeah a good rim job is kinda rare

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm assuming you have to wait till you find the right one for a nice rim job

10 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

I got this as a gift and it was horrible. Only a few bottles end up being usable. Much better using anything but this!

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Glazier here. Got this. Pissed off. Made it work like a champ. After scoring the glass, fill bottle with hot ass h20, lower into cold h20.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I need to try that,I had better success with a blow torch after pouring cold water on the line

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don't spend money. Use alcohol soaked string and a lighter! Way cheaper than I'm sure this device is.

10 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

What kind of string? It just burns and breaks when I tried.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Must be cotton

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Essplain?

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

A ring of an intense heat source pressed tightly to the glass then shocking the area with cold water will create a breakable seam. This 1/

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

is because glass is hard but brittle. The rapid expansion and contraction of the glass will break it. This stress is why you do not 2/

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

put glasswear that is straight from the oven into water, the stress imposed by the rapid cooling will have it shatter and explode. 3/3

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thanks for the explanation. Learned some science and more or less how to do this on my own! Up votes to you, @SweetJackal!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

String soaked in alcohol and a lighter. I have about 40 of these, make easy gifts and I get drunk

10 years ago | Likes 184 Dislikes 1

Probably way cheaper than this too.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

How did you master the technique? I always tend to get wavy uneven line or the glass cracks from to much heat. I've all but given up on th

10 years ago | Likes 58 Dislikes 1

I made a slipknot, and really it was just lots of drinking and practice haha

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I've felt the hate rise up in me...

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

But..but wasting Alcohol to cut a bottle, bad premise.

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 26

Rubbing alcohol, darling.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You're thinking of the wrong kind of alcohol

10 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 1

What is this.. "Wrong kind" you speak of

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 5

depends how hardcore they are.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I prefer isopropyl alcohol it gets you more drunk imo

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

You can actually get cleaner breaks by jus doing hot/cold water. Flame/water is usually too big of a temperature difference for glass.

10 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Yeah, it was just the first way i learned and the one i did the most, so it kinda stuck with me.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How do you localise the heat then? That's why the fire on the string is used. Couldn't imagine hot water on a string holding enough heat.

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Hold bottle in near boiling water where you want the break to be then dip in it in ice water? Would that work?

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Sorry, work and then kid. Yes hot as possible tap water followed by ice bath. The flame is too hot and adds heat to the surrounding (1/2)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Glass with when dropped into cold water increases the chance for vertical fractures along the bottle.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Use a blowtorch if you have one, it will round up the edges. If you don't then sandpaper

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Get the glass really really hot and pour ice cold water on it make sure your face is close to the cup so you can make sure it's smooth

You spend another four hours with sandpaper to make it smooth.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

Only takes a min with 180 grit to seam the sharp edge which makes it safe. Finished edge takes a few more.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

or you spend 1 minute with the oxy-acetylene torch and an old record player
