Shameless stolen cat tax.

Ok, so the scientists from Prometheus & Alien Covenant are somehow a little more believable now.

Literally first capture day last year, too gentle while scruffing mouse. Get bit, fling mouse *in plastic bag* at partner, she catches it.

I stubbed my toe walking into the break room last week.

Someone at a lab on campus thought they were using Hydrochloric acid when they were really using Hydrofluoric acid.

"...while attaching 2 r2dio transmitters." Am I the only one who read it this way?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In the archaeology field school I just finished, one girl got stung by a wasp on her ass while she was in the port-a-potty.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

so you're saying...she swole?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

#5 so is it now coprolite when it came out?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Bench science. Bench science? Bench science.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

#11 now you know why blood is normally transported in plastic bags, not glass vials.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Probably collection vials with EDTA or other anti-coagulants.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Holy fuck

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Mondays, amirite?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

#10 Cabin pressure changes. This is why so many things are denied on airplanes....

If these are the fails the highlight of your job must be pretty exciting

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I thought Caiman grow up to 9 feet max (may be wrong).

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's what she said.

Amazing!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Number 10 would be the most embarrassing!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not field work, but I once accidentally dumped almost a liter of liquid nitrogen on myself

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Apparently you're supposed to get training other than another grad student telling you where to write down how much you took. Who knew?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Invasive parakeets at NATO hdqtrs. You can't make this stuff up.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I currently live at the NATO headquarters and now I'm going to be looking around for parakeets.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don't get stopped by Security. You tell them you're looking for parakeets and it won't go well for you.

Is licking fossils common at a dig site?

9 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

Not just for fossils, but to discern certain minerals from another. Can taste salt extremely well. Fossils aren't salty.

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

They tell you not to do in school, but everyone does. Bones and fossils will stick to your tongue. Rocks won't.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I heard somewhere that fossils will stick to your tongue bc they are porous.

9 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

True^ source: licked a dinosaur bone at a dig once

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In short, yes. Your tongue and fossils make a Velcro-like connection, while rocks/minerals don't.

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

We did it to discern animal vs human bones. But only rookies need it, after you have seen a few, you instantly know the difference by site.

Why does #3 have a third arm going to fun places?

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

That's how fast your arms flail when you are being swarmed. your brain & body want to panic.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Meant to show rapid hand motions.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

would anyone in their right mind think getting stalked by a jaguar for 3 weeks would be exciting?

9 years ago | Likes 356 Dislikes 0

Define 'right mind'

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

unless it's a cougar....then no

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

I'd pay money for that VR game

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Well, now that you know you can live through it

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

well if you're an ark player you can lead it to a safe tame zone

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I think it depends on what you're going for and what you live for. For survivalists it could be an exhilarating game of cat and mouse

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I might be in the left mind, but I think it's exciting

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Yeah but ... Dragon

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I mean, objectively, it is. Might not be fun, but if you think being stalked by a jaguar is boring, your everyday life might be too exciting

Is that you, Samurai Jack?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I mean Steve Irwin had a kid, so that's at least one person who probably would.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I can think of one man v

This is perfect.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Voiced by Danny Trejo, if you didn't know.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

AND HIS NAME IS JOHN CENA!!!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 39

Not sure why this is being downvoted, but I don't really care either

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Jaguar you no name.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

What is this from?

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Rick and Morty, that character is named "Jaguar" and is played by Danny Trejo. :) Really good episode too.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Rick and Morty

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Not as fun as being stalked by a cougar for 3 weeks

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

hey now nothing wrong with being stalked by a cougar

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

yes there is. the idea is much better in theory than in practice. all of the cougars i have encountered go completely insane very quickly

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

When did you last meet someone in their right mind?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

#6 I have further questions...

9 years ago | Likes 75 Dislikes 0

Quick method of discerning bone from rock. If it sticks to your tongue it's bone (because porous), if not, it's rock.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Fossils are comparatively porous, they'll lightly stick to your tounge if you lick them.

9 years ago | Likes 70 Dislikes 0

Cool - thanks!

9 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

I'm more interested in how it came out...

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Heimlich I assume.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ok, ok, I get what licking is for. But is he gonna need to poop it out, or is the bone useless now?

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

The practice of licking rocks is pretty common among the geology community, but I was never fond of it.

9 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 0

Congrats it's coprolite. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

This is a shitty joke

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Better coprolite than realizing it's just your neighbor's dog shit

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

haha, poo

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Archaeologists do the same, both with bones and shards

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

can confirm

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What kind of archaeology are you doing?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

At the moment i am working on a medival site in Norway

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Nice, but a bit too young for my taste

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nasty habit. But somewhat impressive how some guys can date ceramics by taste and texture

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

never seen anybody that stuff by taste, but have seen it by texture and typology. Yeah, but so cool to see the look (1/2)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

on the face of the new guys when we tell them to taste it :D (2/2)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Imho the taste thing is primarily for show, but hey, as long as the result is correct, they can lick pots as much as they like.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I. Need. More. I could read these all day, and probably add a few.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Story time?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Well, I was working in a rattlesnake lab, and was looking for a specimen we collected (non-venomous) found the tag, reached in, and pulled

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Out a very confused coral snake. In my hand.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I assume coral snakes are super deadly venomous?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You assume right

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yuuuuup. Neurotoxin will zap the breath right out of you.
