No new GPU for you

I'm actually looking to sell my 1080 TI. $940 free shipping. Msg me if interested.

Apparently nvidia's upcoming cards lock out crypto mining?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

are older cards still cheap? cards like GTX670s

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I wish I could find a good new 670 in a price..

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I bought a new graphics card right before the prices soared.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

CHOCOLATE!!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Got a GTX 1070 SC edition for $405 on newegg in December, it retailed at 399.99 I almost got original price lol.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've given up hope to get a Graphics Card.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Cryptocurrency needs to die. There are much better uses for all that hardware and electricity. We need to stop wasting resources on it.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Hey...my laptop is kinda failing...it would be nice if I could buy a fucking graphics card

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

After 5 years I decde to build a PC. I even got a friend of a friend to create a great pc configuration. And then I looked at the GPU price.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I was finally going to do it. I was finally going to build a pc this year. God damn it. God damn it all.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

This was the year I planned to upgrade my gpu too

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

ive had the same pc since 2008, i recently upgraded the 3 gigs of DDR2, to 8 gigs of DDR2 and i love it.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

cost me $40 for 4 DDR2 ram cards.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

YEAH FUCK DECENTRALIZED CURRENCIES REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

I don't think i've ever hated something so quickly

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

yo is it a bad time to buy im hoping to buy next month.....

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Walked into a frys electronics to replace my tired old 660, shelves were BARREN like id never witnessed. Walked out with an aero rx 560 and

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Disappointment

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I was wanting to sell my CS:GO inventory and buy new parts, but now one card is my entire inventory now.. I hate it.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Seriously GPU's are a rare commodity these days.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

GPUs are not being used to mine Bitcoin. That was a thing in 2011. Now only specialized hardware is profitable. So those logos need upgrade.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 15

People still use gpus for mining. A lot. Just because it's not AS profitable doesn't mean idiots won't buy 20 cards.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

Not for bitcoin, but for other crypto currencies they do.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That',s precisely my point.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

The fuck they aren't. It just depends on what kind of hashing you're doing.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Many of the newer currencies that come out often still mine off gpu

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Weeeelllll no, you can still make a profit from using gpu's. And if cryptocurrency belly up's gpu's will have better resale value

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

You can't. Far from it. Unless you steal electricity from somebody (like your parents).

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Criminals stealing electricity for bitcoin farms do appear more frequently, so legal or not those gpu’s are still being used for it

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

And dont forget that there are a lot of countries where they can get cheap electricity and housing, gpu’s for bitcoin is still a thing

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I run nicehash on my gaming pc at night/while im at work. makes about 40$ a month, and the increase in power usage is barely noticable.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

plus it's just a single 980gt.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

You can make money mining cryptos using your GPU. My point is that it doesn't work with Bitcoin.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

I am mining bitcoin

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

shhhhh anti miners, hate this kind of info

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 8

It doesn't make much difference to the point Crypto mining is inflating the price. Using a different logo would mostly just confuse most

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

So is it now worth more to build a PC vs Buying them premade?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Pretty much, certain Pre-mades have been selling for better prices than a GPU and all the compnents put together.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

It costs more to build now because prebuilts get cards and ram at or below msrp.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Id recommend buying premades now. Seen better deals for rigs where it cost almost as much as a gpu.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If getting a highend card right now, most likely premade with the card you want in it

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

well i guess that just makes things easier on our end... but overall we are having to pay more

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Who mines Bitcoin with a GPU?

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

There's more than just bitcoin, there's doezen's of 'em.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

v

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh I know, just saying that you need an ASIC box to do anything meaningful with BTC.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Where's the ppl that bought bitcoin at the 20K highs? Do not buy if the value is already 20times greater,in

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

Built my brother a PC a year ago, paid 650$ for a 1070. The same card is now 850$. I hope crypto currency implodes just out of spite now.

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

And don't even get me started on the idiots selling used 1070's for 1000$ on ebay. Massive scam.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Can someone explain to me what crypto mining has to do with the price of graphics cards?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Basically GPUs are good for certain currencies so assholes go out and buy 8 of them at once to try and earn fake internet money.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

GPU is great for floating point calculations which miners need to validate transactions on block chain & mine crypto as CPU isn't as good.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

people use the processing power of the GPU to mine, this drives the demand for cards up, and thus prices.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

ahh, thanks for the explanation.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It sucks, because I finally was going to be able to build a computer this year..

8 years ago | Likes 83 Dislikes 1

I almost had the opportunity to get a new computer last year just as this bubble was forming but missed my chance.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I bought a 1050 ti for $270 (CAD) Not the best but it holds it's own for now

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was going to fulfil my high-school dream. Well, no I will do it with a 1050TI...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I just wanted to upgrade my graphics card ._.

8 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

I cooled my 980ti with a NZXTg12 and a radiator, then overclocked it to 1080ti specs and it's holding well. Just wish I could add VRAM

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't remember what I have but it's not remotely that high lol

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sure you can clock it, but you won't have the insane graphical technology memory, and cuda cores.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yea but it's better than forking over 2k for a 1080ti.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Go to the EVGA website and set it to notify you when the card you want is in stock, you can direct buy from them at normal price 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Be warned, they sell out within 5-15min of you getting the email. Just ordered a 1080ti at msrp after waiting 2 weeks for the email.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I'm amazed you got the fuggin email. I shall keep waiting

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Same here.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just buy a HP omem there's one with $1269 that has a geforce 1070 pretty good

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

You still can. The usedmarket exists. Lookup the gtx770. It's a 1060,but for 130 instead of 350.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

In some countries (like mine) the used market kinda sucks. Buying a new card like the RX 550 can actually be cheaper.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Run a high risk of the used gpu being a retired crypto gpu that ran at 100% load for months straight

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Exactly this, especially for that price. Wouldnt trust it for one bit

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just tried to purchase gtx 1080 when it came back in stock. Out of stock by the time I made it though the checkout. Ridiculous.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

My mom bought me a 1080 for christmas last year. She's not even wealthy. I'm a grown adult.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

My mom bought me a 1080 for christmas last year. She's not even wealthy. I'm a grown adult.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

NVidia is contemplating a marketplace lock on amount of cards purchasable to help alleviate this. (Their own marketplace through their

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

website)

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Honestly I don't even see how crypto miners make profit. The amount of power used to run the cards is basically all of your profit. /1

8 years ago | Likes 205 Dislikes 6

At this point they dont. Mining is only profitable in very very few places where electricity ia very cheap. Its just a ton of idiots....

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Jumping on a bandwagon before fully understanding what theyre doing.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Like most things involving Bitcoins, the only way you can make money is by doing something pretty scummy

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

I have mining setup on my gaming PC when I'm not gaming on it. Electricity costs take less than half of my profits at $.16 per KWH.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Remember that the people who actually made money during the gold rush were the people selling supplies to the miner. This is the same thing

8 years ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 1

Theres an easy way to verify that. Are they still doing it? If yes, then it is profitable.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I honestly think the industry just likes to simulate shortages to increase prices.

8 years ago | Likes 106 Dislikes 5

Currently its more or less the stock market, except a lot less regulation. We'll see how long it lasts.

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

They're talking about the PC hardware market, lol

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I theorize it's also because of the potential for things like AI and protein folding. There isn't a faster way to get raw computing power.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Actually, it's because of the massive increase in hyperscale data centers for companies like amazon and google, literally causing a shortage

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Well mining is currently paying my rent and costs me $20/month in power

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

ITS CALL QUÉBEC. 0.04$/kWh

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 5

"utilities included" or anywhere with socialism for electricity

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Mostly it's because there are certain people out there who see it as a potential investment, so they pay miners for their coins. And/or »

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

they're laundering money for drugs while there's still a market for these stupid things.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lol electricity is 1/10 of profit. Also it's all about roi the profit. I make 1000 a month with 12 gpus with ether @700

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 18

This. It’s basically a money printer. Have a program switch to the most profitable crypto and you’re set.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 7

And more if I sell the ether at a high point in the future. People who mined before for negative that saved the ether would have - - >

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 11

Been making 5k a day a year later

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 9

Buddies of mine do it on campus in their dorm. Free power.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

They're going to get caught by the IT crew and lose internet privileges

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

4 years in and they are good.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Wow that college IT crew sucks. My college, I can't even remember how I got a day long ban but I did it by clicking a link by accident.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

People are moving to my county because of the low electricity prices.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Cheap Power and huge mining factories, like in China

8 years ago | Likes 71 Dislikes 2

And Venezuela at one point

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I tell everyone who wants to get into it, "Who do you think benefits the most from cryptos? Entrepreneurs or state-run operations in (1)

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

sanctioned countries whose own currency can't be used as freely? Who do you think holds the lion's share of cryptos? And what do you (2)

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

think they are going to do with it?" That usually slows people down. (3)

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Recently I saw an article that said it was just discovered that cryptos are being used for child sex trafficking as if it didnt start....

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

There are calculators out there you can plug in a card model, the crypto, and the cost of electricity in your area and tell you how much (1)

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

you can expect to net. Even at $0.25/kwh, you can expect to profit $100+/mo mining the popular cryptos like BTC or ETH. Although (2)

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Not on BTC you won't. ETH was designed to be too difficult to do on ASICs though, so GPUs are OK.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

confidence in the crypto market has slipped significantly in the last couple weeks, so as of the moment, it might not be profitable. (3)

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Solar power is common now

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They just hope the price of the crypto explodes. Wiping out all electricity cost.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

People mortgaged their homes to invest, so with all that maybe the real economy will too

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Stolen power or cheap power

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's not too bad. I have one ASIC miner for LiteCoin. I'm on track to make about $200 profit per month. 0.13/kWh on peak. 0.07 off.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

And whats your ROI with that monthly profit? Im guessing "longer than the crypto fad will last"

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

7.5 months. Hopefully the cryptofad will hold out until I can make some decent money!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Theres no way in hell you bought an ASIC mining rig for $1500. A gtx 1080ti goes for $1100 alone right now. ASIC is well over 3k

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

AntMiner L3+ with a coupon from BitMain. Used some bonus money from work so I really didn't feel it in the wallet at all.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm getting pretty bored of people asking me to help them build a PC and then having to tell them to go buy one instead because it's cheaper

8 years ago | Likes 654 Dislikes 9

I'm tired of people asking me to help them build a pc then ruining the GPU mining crypto with it.

8 years ago | Likes 220 Dislikes 7

Bought one recently for my kid. Had a GPU in it. Gold Jerry gold.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Same, I just want to get a 1080 for a decent price.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good luck friend

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ahh, it's funny cause cryptos are in a downtrend and there's no guarantee they'll keep going up :)

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

No, you tell them they're going to have to pay a little more so they're still getting high quality build and not a piece of prebuilt junk

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 12

[deleted]

8 years ago (deleted Apr 9, 2018 11:15 PM) | Likes 0 Dislikes 0

Correct - Some rebuilt IS junk but most isn't AND it comes with a warranty. Hard to beat that when home built is without that and costs more

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Mate have you seen the GPU market? You can either get a 1080 or a high-mid prebuilt. It's a card versus a computer.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

i was looking for this comment. thank you.

Elitism? Cause I bought parts before the crypto shit and like customizing my PC im an elitist? Are people who build custom cars elitists too

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Fuck me for wanting quality I guess. Fuck me enjoying something.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

I heard nvidia is making a mining card. Same base stuff without the graphics power.

8 years ago | Likes 90 Dislikes 3

Won't change anything until supply > demand.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You heard wrong.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Won't work tho, miners will still buy the regular ones for resale value

8 years ago | Likes 63 Dislikes 0

Regular cards used for mining doesn't have much resale value to begin with because they're massive overstressed and won't last.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I thought that crypto mining was so resource intensive that it wears down the hardware after some months. If that's true and 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

Fan bearings wear out, that's all. You can replace fans.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Not true. The GPU itself can wear down through overuse just like any other computing component.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah its true, it burns the GPU out, you can repair alot of it but its just usually not worth the effort. They'll be selling large

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

sums of these cards and places like eBay will implement protect security rules (You must declare what the product was used for) due to

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Mining eventually drops off then the market would be flooded with dodgy second hand cards that nobody would want to buy.

8 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 1

Tearing down the price of gpu's with it. It's going to be a glorious wave of burnt out gpu's

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

You are correct! I'm from the future! Cheap dodgy cards everywhere

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, buying used gpus is already super risky. I wouldn't do it without return policies period.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Maybe by idiots but mining actually is most efficient when the card is cool (where the effective lifetime of all the electrical (1)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

There are rumors that their next series of cards won't be able to mine in order to actually get gpus to gamers and clear out 10 series stock

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Literally impossible plus why would they exclude a massive amount of their market?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Because by buying up all of the card so that there are none left, people are turning to other companies that make cheaper, less intense 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Mining is not going to be a lasting market with how blockchain is evolving. The 1st GPU company to limit it will gain intense gamer loyalty

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Literally not impossible and they aren't excluding their market. They want to make separate hash cards for miners and sell gpus separately.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

gamers yell louder than miners

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

Here's the thing... Those mining cards are still using the same parts, being manufactured in the same facilities, and thus still 1/?

8 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Going to interfere with the graphics market. The mining cards will only take up slots for real graphics cards and they can't even be 2/?

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Resold or repurposed for use in PCs after the miner has upgraded to something else. It's a huge waste of time, money, and silicon.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

My friend bought a 2400g last week, vega 11 runs gta V, pubg, and cod 3 pretty well.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

I've destroyed a couple of Vega 64s, a 56, and Fury X this week...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Putting mine together tonight

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

For light weight 'gaming' they're alright, but if you want any noticeable eye candy, or a resolution above 1080p, they just don't cut it.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Yup, but whats funny is that a few people have used the integrated graphics to mine and it did sadly well.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That won't become mainstream since you can't stack them tall like you can with dedicated, you'd need a mobo and ram for each chip.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

yet no one talks about the memory shortage...

8 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

Must have forgotten about it

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That’s cause no one remembers it

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

lol its a current problem, not past

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

Good thing I bought my 16gb of ram when there was no shortage then

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's not what's making 200$ cards cost 500$ though. By it self, it'd only make it cost 235- not 500.

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

greedy retailers are

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Capitalism at work.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Most of it is resellers. Microcenter is selling them in store for just a hair over MSRP, 1 per customer. Newegg and Amazon are selling 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

2/2 at retail price but they are being bought out and resold through the same site by 3rd parties.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Newegg is not selling at retail...not even close

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The sellers are all 3rd party. I watched a shipment of MSI 1080ti go up FROM newegg for $950 and they were sold out in seconds.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Can someone PLEASE explain what crypto minging is and how it ruins cards ? Also can it affect me?

8 years ago | Likes 59 Dislikes 3

So it doesn't affect you unless you want to buy a new gpu.

8 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

It doesn't ruin them - it requires them. There's actually a few kinds of hashing, but the most popular one benefits more from GPU (1)

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

It massively overuses the GPUs, really pushing them to their limits, and when they go to resell them they'll last like a day.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

power than CPU or RAM. The rush of numpties trying to get into mining buy all the GPUs that come available, causing a shortage. (2)

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Heat ruins cards. Mining rigs run several cards in one box at full tilt non stop. They get very hot and degrade very quickly.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

Nope. The cards use way more electricity hot so miners limit them to like 70-80% power and get like 90-95% the max mining.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Running right at the edge of thermal throttling it terrible for cards. Learn about the hardware you're abusing.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Who said anything about thermal throttling? You run them a fair bit below that point like 70-75C where the big thermal throttle is at 83C.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Miner Here: My Cards never go above 50C, but ok :p

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Then you're either spending a ton on cooling (which means less or no profit) or running them so low that your ROI is infinite.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

6 GPU rig, open air cooled, fans set to 65%. You can limit down power without using hashrate. The last 40 watts gets you very little.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Profit is about 300 bucks a month atm, but sure I'm sure you know what you're talking about.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've met and talked to a lot of miners just like you. You all think your setups are absolutely perfect to the point of defying physics. Nope

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The mining needs processing power, and the more the better. So miners buy lots of good gpu' s which increases their price

8 years ago | Likes 82 Dislikes 0

It's not necessarily the processing power. GPUs are especially good at mining because it takes them a lot less time to calculate some of the

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

complex math needed to mine.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A CPU could have much more processing power, but because of the way GPUs handle certain math they'll generally be faster no matter what.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just look at the gtx 1060, i bought the 6gb version before for 320 euros, the 3gb version is 1.5 times that nowadays

8 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 6

Not true, I bought a 6gb 1060 this year for $300 from nvidia

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

That's because nvidia is trying to combat the unavailability by selling a few cards occasionally at MSRP, but that *is* below market value.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That you can find one person who will occasionally sell at a discount doesn't make it "not true" to say that the *standard* price is higher.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Ohhh. And what is mining

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 2

Using processing power to create cryptocurrencies. The prices of some of them are currently way above their worth so people try to make>

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

Quick money off it.

8 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Using your system's gpu to run the algorithm's needed for a bitcoin transaction which is then rewarded for bitcoin

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Soo it fakes transaction to give you some?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Supply & demand. The rise in people using GPUs to mine cryptocurrencies for profit has made GPUs more expensive for everyone. 1.
