Outside of art theft, CSAM, water usage and pollution etc what really gets me is how AI HAS RUINED people’s ability to accept someone’s hard work as real. It’s such a double edged sword because on one hand, we have a right to be skeptical when we are being deceived and stolen from so much online but on the other that skepticism is making us distrust things that are real and that people put time, energy, skill and real effort into it and automatically labeling it AI.
There’s a page I follow that makes and sells steel jewelry. They have an in house 3D artist they’ve worked with for nearly a decade along with other artists who design the jewelry and they launched a 3D rendered promo video for a new engraved necklace they’re releasing. The comment section was FULL of people who were clearly new to the page accusing them of using AI instead of hiring a real artist because they didn’t read the caption or the tags talking about how they came up with the concept of the video and the artist had to respond in the comments to try and make people chill because no one took the time to read where he was tagged and credited for his work along with other artists, they just grabbed the pitchforks and started screaming AI.
It’s infiltrated so much that it’s getting to where I can’t create single covers as easily because so many of the stock photo pages allow AI now and for years I’ve used Canva, IStock, Pexel etc for various different stock images that I’ve added to in Canva to reimagine the photos for different releases over the years. Now I have to dig and check the year an image of a fantasy scene or castle was posted to have some reassurance it’s not AI. I know Unsplash doesn’t accept AI but even then finding something that fits can be a challenge.
I just miss people being able to appreciate and deliver authenticity without it being so heavily scrutinized as being fake or people just not having the patience to simply READ or RESEARCH when a video came out etc before making those accusations. I see it all the time here on Imgur, Instagram, YouTube (don’t even get me started on their AI moderation bullshit…) etc and I just….ugh.

I got accused of posting AI art. On one hand I guess I'm flattered that they thought it was good enough that it had to be AI but on the other hand, it was obnoxious that I had to quickly prove that it wasn't to avoid getting downvoted into oblivion.

I'm tired of the knee-jerk virtue signalers who call everything AI slop. I posted a pic that I saved in 1998 and was accused of using AI to make it. Their parents yelled "Photoshop" at every sunset pic. Their grandparents yelled "darkroom manipulation" at every Ansel Adams photo. They're self-appointed Guardians of All That's Pure on Imgur with no ability to understand there are talented artists capable of creating anything by themselves. All they can do is copy/paste "AI slop" on everything.

Yea it’s insanely frustrating. There’s no attempt to use any amount of discernment. They just automatically jump to something being AI and I hate that we are having to question shit like this period. It’s even crazier when a popular meme or video from 10-12 years gets reposted and it’s STILL labeled as AI and it just seems like there’s no damn way around it.

If they say it about something I post, I block them. I waste no more time on them than it takes to do that. A few will say why they oppose AI and are calm about it, but most storm in with guns blazing, dropping F-bombs everywhere and I have no time for idiots like that. All they do is spend 30 hours a day, 9 days a week, 400 days a year virtue signalling whether they're correct about it being AI or not. Hang in there. What you know and believe about your own work is what matters most. :-)

Yea and the company was rightfully offended too. Especially when they praise their artists and constantly credit them, but people lack the ability to not immediately react and do their due diligence. Some people in the comments were like “Hey, atleast your work is good enough to be considered AI!” Which isn’t the compliment people think it is since AI is already a frankensteined result based off OTHER ARTISTS work that’s often not even that good when you look closely.
