It’s ok if this dies but I needed a place to pat myself on the back. One day at a time.

The pride of coming back tonight must be amazing, you can keep it up. She’ll remember and appreciate that you did

Do not mind seeing this kind of post on the front page.

My dad and grandpa have both quit drinking in the last 5ish years. It's so hard and so worth it. I'm proud of you. You can do this.

No longer blacking out is one of the best parts of quitting drinking. Holy shit, I remember what I did last night.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Getting drunk is just borrowing happiness from tomorrow.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Now comes the hard part: NOT "rewarding yourself" for doing well.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

GET IT! WE ARE PROUD OF YOU!

4 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Nice! 75 days ago I was in a detox facility for (hopefully) the last time. Haven't had a drink since thanks to help from others recovering.

Reading bedtime stories to one's audience (sometimes with goofy accents), I always found to be the best high of all. Keep up the good work

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There are meds that will help you. Go to cauds.org these meds work for everyone and you don’t have to be dry, but you can become dry ??

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Oh hell yea. Much less trauma for both of you. And the connection forged at bedtime is unreal. You deserve to celebrate this moment. Bravo!

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Best part of my day. 2 books, 2 songs, a big hug and a kiss on the cheek…literally nothing better

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

yay!! I'm hitting one year sober next week. Feel free to message if you need. It is indeed one day at a time

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You got this!!

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

she needs you more than you need to drink

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

This hits. Thank you ?

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Great work!

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Keep it up! Do it for you and not least do it for your daughter.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Bravo and hugs from Paris!

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Good job!

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

What matters is you took that step.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thats good and all but i really hope you understand the depravity of your situation. This could easily be something shared from another 1/

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Perspective in the future as a memory of why a daughter doesn't speak to their abusive addict father. You can only prevent that with sobriety

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And before im bitched at. I know all too well most perspectives of addiction. Light touches & kind yet distant words do not help addiction.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Alcohol is a class one carcinogen.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You have done the hard part. You’ve actively changed. Whether future days are hard or easy, whether you slip up or not, you’ve already 1/?

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

done the hard part that many fail to do (and in all aspects of life). And that’s change. Best that hurdle and you can beat anything. 2/2

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

"Thank you, daddy."

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Maybe mommy? I dunno...

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yep ?‍?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

stimulant user here, what is graying out? is it similar to growing white hairs??

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Drinkers describe it as being a drink or 2 from being black-out drunk.

4 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

It's when you're so drunk you forget the entire last 2 episodes you stayed up binging for to begin with and say "one more drink and episode"

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Keep it up!! Remember how good this feels

4 years ago | Likes 314 Dislikes 1

that's what she said

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Remembering how good it feels is why I continue to drink

4 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 4

I have feelings of both. I love both feelings. Drinking usually wins, always wins, because of the immediate relief

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Been there too

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Gross

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 6

but it's actually the reason ... ?

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Read the book „alcohol lied to me“ and screw the one day at a time misery. It will free you for good without regret or wanting it. Good luck

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

how so?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It’s a drug that is addictive but the book shows you don’t need it for a good time, sad, celebrate etc. Do kids enjoy life without alcohol?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I didn't enjoy much once adolescence set in. hasn't changed since

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

actually not that much before either

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Check out the book!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Good job! Proud of you! Detox carefully and please get help with the withdrawal if you need it.

4 years ago | Likes 198 Dislikes 2

Yes, this. Great job, @op

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What does "detox carefully" mean? I mean, your liver and kidneys do that job or at least they should.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Alcohol withdrawals can be deadly. Seizures and such. When chemical addiction is severe, medical management of detox is often necessary.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This. DO NOT go full turkey, for the love of god. It will destroy you.

4 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

How much would one have to drink for this to be a concern?

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Let's start with how much you drink now? Any amount might be worth a taper though.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It depends on the person, stopping suddenly can kill via seizure, tapering can avoid that but it's not easy for addicts to taper, the other

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

option is seeing a doctor and they'll prescribe something like chlordiazepoxide or another benzo for maybe a week to prevent that

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Benzo's are a slippery slope too though, so bear that in mind

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I was drinking at least a liter of 50% liquor a day for several years and when several times i quit cold turkey it was hell.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Jesus. That must have been miserable. But you made it through fairly unscathed?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't know about unscathed. I feel like I definitely shot my brain capacity. I can't remember shit, my body aches and I vomit randomly
