I know they used to use the detcord itself for timing. Tying knots/loops in the cord so it takes a little longer for spark to boom, etc

IIRC there are different speeds, but you can also just leave excess deto cord to achieve the desired timing.

Another option would be looking at mining company websites. Gold, coal, and aggregate all usually blast.
