I know with 100% certainty that anti-abortion people do actually want the women, and babies, to die. It's part of the whole evangelical doomsday movement. They're genuinely convinced that Jesus and the 4 horsemen are gonna show up and take all the "good christians" to heaven and kill everyone else in fire. "Protect the life of the mother" is a shit standard, while I'd prefer mother's choice, lowest possible bar should be "Quality of life for the mother." The human body can survive a lot of damage, and can live without a number of organs by depending on medical tech as various states carve out exceptions only for 'vital organs'

It's simple. You have a law prosecuting doctor who give abortions. Then no doctor want to give an abortion when there is no 100% sure that the fetus is dead. By which time the mother usually already have sepsis and die. And of course, you can prosecute the doctors later. by that time the women is already dead for years and the case itself will drag for another few.

I go through a lot of legal documents as part of my job and you'd be shocked how many of these types of mistakes go unnoticed. I sometimes wonder if it's a deliberate stalling tactic to put a clear typo or omission to get a few extra days to 'cure' the document and then resubmit.
