I hate the WATCH ME PHYSICALLY REACT TO THIS VIDEO type of bullshit most of all. They add nothing to the content. They are just mooching off the content, specifically when they are adding zero input other than just *mime outrage/joy/agreement/disagreement*
Often it's stolen content, changing the audio and adding emojis & awful writing over the top will avoid automatic copyright infringement detection. Same with the stupid giant borders you often see.
The bottom feeding users can't survive without flashing lights, diarrhea noises, and poorly executed skits that distract them with 10 seconds of nonsense at a time. It's disheartening. I'm not saying that people need to watch The Expanse or it's equivalents all the time but holy hell, CringeTok is killing brain cells.
I remember when banana phone came out. Top quality, highbrow humor, crisp audio, real voices. Not like this Tik Tok trash. (For real though, I think the voices on Tik Tok are annoying too.)

In other words, a viral meme in 2010 may have lasted a month, but now it’ll only last a week. That’s a shorter cultural attention span. Unsurprisingly, the news reports conflated that with personal attention spans, implying that social media leads to a diminished ability for one to pay attention. TL;DR: No.
Seems to be the case with most short-form content, be it TikTok, YT Shorts, etc. And even with my dislike for the disjointed, hectic editing, I find myself mindlessly scrolling for half an hour before YT's garbage algorithm inevitably wakes me from my stupor by serving some Andrew Tate nonsense.

Shorts are primarily meant for mobile consumption, so the expectation is that the user will use their phone media volume controls to adjust and I guess shorts are so short that they don't think anyone'll want to scrub.
