I think its important to point out that the republican party deals in emotions, not facts. they communicated the feeling that repubs already wanted to feel: That "the liberals" are attacking the country and the institutions that feel old and stable. Mission was accomplished just by reinforcing their feelings. That is what fox news and the like does...
