Umm What?
So I'm not exactly a showstopper(unless I get really dolled up), but I'm fit, short, and have a sorta cute face. I'm also an engineering student who can cook really well thanks to my Hispanic grandparents. So I feel like I have plenty to offer.
I've been single most of my life, barring one serious relationship, and I feel like I'm ready to start dating. That being said I really don't get asked out often and usually get passed up by men. It's been an incredible source of frustration and a huge hit to my self esteem. My friend knows this. Yet when we were talking about dating tonight he told me "you have to give guys something worth chasing" and "guys don't take girls out without you earning it". Seriously? Am I overreacting by being kinda hurt by this?
ZaphodBbx
Okay, well first I read that as: 'went to closet male friend' so I figured he was gay...but on closer reading, he's just insensitive...
Davoneous
Your friend is retarded. I'm a guy, and I'll go out with you.
PrincessLeliana
They're being a bunch of cunts. Don't listen to them, wait for the perfect guy to come to you, and he will. Just wait.
ChickenStrudelBANNEDAgainAgain
Be forward, it doesn't hurt. Your friend is a dick.
ThisIsNoCave
Confidence goes a long way. Ask a guy out. Own your looks and all that you offer. Your friend was kinda a dick.
TinyOctopus
Tiny octopus thinks that your inbox is about to become a little crowded. That being said, friend or not, he sounds a little chauvinist
Alleybell
Yeah I'm just now starting to realize that
TheBadDad
You just checked off 3 of my most important must haves. How you doin?
Alleybell
I read that in the Wendy Williams voice. So thank you for that
eysin
Give us a selfie, then prepare your inbox...
siknoz
I don't think he was trying to be mean. However if you want guys to notice and ask you out then learn to flirt more, and be super obvious
Dangerneck
Your "friend" is an asshat. Unless your standards are Swedish underwear model you can get men's attention. Just be cool. We like cool chix.
HailToTheDickbutt
HI I'm Dickbutt, may I take you out some time/exchange messages?
Alleybell
Just for the name yes
choicebutts2
You're not overreacting. He was rude.
DeadyBearr
Maybe he meant youre boring?
WellThisIsAwkwardMyNameIsTaken
Your mate was way to harsh there! Life's hard, just gotta plough through!
cpiderman
Your friend is talking about "the game". Fuck the game, its stupid, your "friend" needs a throat punch.
Alleybell
If I didn't work with him I would
cpiderman
Just watch out. A guy that likes "the chase", can blur lines in his head.
funktastic
if you can't catch prey by setting a trap and waiting, you gotta go on the hunt instead. but your friend was a jerk.
MayIPleaseSeeYourButt
Your friend sounds like a dick. As a guy, go ahead and ask out guys instead of waiting for them to ask you out.
middleagedman
Ditto above. I never asked out a girl. Always preferred being the lady's choice.
EloraLyon
Abso-fucking-lutely this.
invisiblemaniac
Indeed. It's 2016. You'll be rejected sometimes, but that's life. I assure you there are PLENTY of young men happy to be asked.
CodeUsernameIrrelevent
"It's the current year, just "insert activity here""
invisiblemaniac
Also, "Hey, want to grab a cup of coffee?" Works on almost any interested party, and is easy enough to throw out there.
Alleybell
I do occasionally. Though I can be a little awkward so it's sometimes an uphill battle.
Averysadrealisation
Confidence is key, you are attractive, and as the others have said keep practicing breaking the ice, it will eventually come naturally! GLOP
SharksWithLaserBeamsAttatchedToTheirHeads
Life would be so much easier if women asked men out all the time.
ThisIsMyUsernameThereAreManyLikeIt
You being kinda hurt is besides the point he was making. I'd try looking at his advice objectively instead of getting personally insulted.
thefightmasters
No you aren't overreacting, that's not something a good friend would say. That being said maybe you need to be the one making advances? 1/2
thefightmasters
Instead of waiting for a guy to ask you out why don't you go after a guy you like?
buzzdoodle
Your friend seems like a shit, OP. Maybe stabbing in the dark: do you think he likes you and doesn't like you looking for other guys?
Alleybell
It's possible, but from what I know I'm not his type. He likes white/Asian women. And I think he's starting to see someone now.
manicmalki
Men feel the same way you do. That said you sound like just my type so don't knock it.
PoindexterQMantan
Short, smart, and cooks Hispanic food well. Hello, my name is poindexter. How are you today.
Alleybell
Hello friend
Zokathra
You friendzoned him fast as lightning.
LittleMsSparkles
Insta friend zoned!
Alleybell
That's not what I meant! Nooooooo
PoindexterQMantan
It's okay, I've had a couple great girlfriends start off as just girl friends.
warbringer24
Nah, see @op, In bird culture, that is known as a "dick move".
ManlyTears
RIP Birdperson.
warbringer24
Best.character man. good ole birdperson
McDiezel
I think he's just trying to tell you we love the hunt, make us fight for it, supply and demand
Alleybell
I guess. I don't know exactly how to "make a guy fight for it". Besides withholding sex
McDiezel
Don't ever ask a guy out, playfully flirt , give them attention and then ignore, basically be a pain in the ass
Alleybell
I've tried that. They just move on to someone else unfortunately.
McDiezel
don't get too upset about what guys say, we're awesome at being dumbasses when it comes to feeling. probably didn't mean it like you think
McDiezel
Im not the best to give advice here, I'm in the same sorta situation but with girls so i kinda get how you feel. you can inbox me to talk
Alleybell
Much appreciated!
