How can I continue to support a party that claims equality and all that, when I am, by their very doctrine, part of the problem? When the Democrat party stops preaching and assuming that all white males are racist, homophobic, misogynistic, sexist, and whatever else, maybe I will come back to the party. Oh, and also, not having a completely corrupt, and reprehensible candidate would also help.
Ch3mis7
which elected democratic official called you a racist? None? well damn maybe don't listen to so much CNN and vote on priorities.
cantsImaginationSmasher
I totally understand where you're coming from but for the last year Trump has said some pretty racist things and his VP is very homophobic.
cantsImaginationSmasher
Don't get me wrong, I fully disagree with blanket generalizations, but you have to admit that's been done to everyone outside of your bubble
ivychikencaesar
The solution shouldn't have to be to support a racist, homophobic, misogynist, sexist president if you are none of those things.
MyBosswouldbedissapointed
Cool thanks for political shit post, it will fit in perfectly with the others
fatherted
OP:
TheLethargarians
Kind of, yeah.
fatherted
No worries, mate. We're all at it.
Derwegdeswarheit
Noto all Trump voters must be racist but he nominated Steve Bannon
DudePlayinADudeDisguisedAsAnotherDude
It isn't based solely on your skin. I think you're missing the point entirely and are falling for a victim complex.
TheGreenDorg
Nope. People tried to make us feel the same during and after the Brexit vote.
DudePlayinADudeDisguisedAsAnotherDude
While some silly people hurl blankets of accusations w/ superficial understanding, that isn't actually the argument. You misunderstand.
TheGreenDorg
Not sure I do. But at the same time I don't really care. I think that politicians misunderstood the white working class across the board.
DudePlayinADudeDisguisedAsAnotherDude
But that's a problem. Politicians did a shit job addressing their constituents but too many Whites take systemic crit. as personal attacks.
TakWriterOfWorlds
Yeah, but people don't think they're victims, they feel they're unjustly persecuted for standing up for something.
DudePlayinADudeDisguisedAsAnotherDude
Unjust persecution IS victimization. The thing is that they AREN'T being persecuted.
TakWriterOfWorlds
You're right. I kind of misspoke. It is victimization, but the perception isn't of being a victim. More like opposition to a just cause.1/2
TakWriterOfWorlds
Like, the perception of some modern Christians that they're being persecuted like the Bible said, and not because they're assholes.
DudePlayinADudeDisguisedAsAnotherDude
Agreed.
treadwords
Being told that you've never had 2 earn anything + that you're problems r negligible is not the best way to get votes.
DudePlayinADudeDisguisedAsAnotherDude
While there will always be dummies who say silly, ignorant things, that's not actually the message.
treadwords
would NEVER give me such a benefit?
DudePlayinADudeDisguisedAsAnotherDude
It isn't a benefit of the doubt. I'm telling you that you misunderstand the argument.
treadwords
Again, there isn't much else to infer from being called "privileged" than what I've already said; or that it's compassionate (hence BOTD).
treadwords
That is the only thing to infer from being called "privileged". But tell me, why should I give the benefit of the doubt to ppl who 1/2
Thefluffernutter
Make it easier for you and have compassion for those who aren't so lucky in those areas. Being privileged isn't something you should feel 4
DudePlayinADudeDisguisedAsAnotherDude
That's the point. Being privileged in some ways doesn't mean you don't have to work or that your disadvantages don't matter.
treadwords
Yes, it does. That is the only reason it is invoked. I mean why would you care about white ppl? They're "privileged".
Thefluffernutter
Ashamed of because it is rarely in your control but you should do what you can to help those who aren't so lucky by recognizing and 5
Thefluffernutter
Struggles as someone who is blind or suffers from mental illness and so that woman has privilege. At the time a white man may be poverty 2
Thefluffernutter
Stricken or suffering from schizophrenia so he would be dispriveleged in those ways. The point is to recognize the areas of your life that 3
Thefluffernutter
Okay so what a lot of people leave out when talking about privilege is the idea of intersectionality. Basically everyone has some sort of 1
Thefluffernutter
Privilege. Everyone. But that doesn't mean their life is perfect. For example an African American woman may not have to face the same 2
treadwords
Well then the word "privilege" becomes meaningless. It becomes soaked in this ugly ill-thought out relativism. 'Advantage' is much better.
Thefluffernutter
Fighting things like a broken mental health care system or systemic oppression. Does that make any sense? 6/6
treadwords
I'm afraid not b/c you want to use that word and the effect it incurs but without any of its content. Bit of advice, use 'advantage'.
treadwords
the term "privilege" BEGS misinterpretation, and I can promise you it will only gain clout negatively. You have every reason to think so.
CarrotSharpener
Great. Now shut the fuck up.
TheLethargarians
No
msu14hockey
So to avoid voting for a corrupt candidate, you voted for a corrupt, unqualified, pathological liar with multiple assault accusations?
PizzaGovorun
Not based on color of your skin. Only based on what your candidate said, though.
jsktrogdor
What the fuck are you talking about.
IronicUsername
This is the kind of thing that you guys would usually respond to by calling OP a social justice warrior or a professional victim. Usually.
demosthenes89
Yup. Same complex just different content. OP is bitching cause he can't handle vague criticism aimed in his general directions.
DVSBSTrD
Then stop voting for the party that caters to racists and homophobes by prioritizing people based on the color of your skin. FFS
timberdoodle5
As a hard working middle class white, I voted Democrat and will continue to do so. If you're feeling self conscious about the company you

footfoe
If you make whites think they're a minority, then they will start voting like one.
RedroverRedrover
How can a white possibly think they're a minority? The vast majority of both party's representatives are white. We're obviously in power.
Rhadamanthus
You personally might not be racist, etc., but you stood alongside those who are and voted with them.
heXonyou
So no one on the left is racist is what you're telling me?
MegaTroidVaniaBros
Trump's first speech after declaring a presidential run called most Mexican illegal immigrants rapists and drug traffickers sent BY Mexico.
MegaTroidVaniaBros
His speeches and major policy platforms were racist from the start. There's no official left stance against any race or religion.
GDhunterrider
I have racist friends but but I'd rather them racist than be lying corrupt killers
FartLongerNotHarder
heXonyou
I actually voted for Hillary, however in hindsight I am relieved that Trump won.
lolaluftnagel
i dont believe trump is truly racist and i dont think hell take away minority rights. I just think he spews idiocy
Rhadamanthus
Then why is he appointing racists to his Cabinet? Bannon, Sessions, Flynn... and he's not done yet.
lolaluftnagel
I honestly believe in his mind hes got bigger fish to fry then something as petty as ruining black or gay lives
Rhadamanthus
Let's say that's true. These three men still have immense power. Do they also have "bigger fish to fry" as well?
Tomadzo
My problem is people voted for Trump for jobs, but all his tax and economic policies contradict that
Luscus
And those jobs are never coming back anyways. If they do return to the US the work will be done by machines
dangeroushorses
His plan for bringing them back is straight up extorting and threatening other countries, which no one seems to see.
Luscus
And would start a trade war which would fuck the economy
dangeroushorses
He's promised overhauls in so many areas, but also promising to do it with budget cuts and lowered taxes? I don't know how they fell for it.
FancyFrance
Mostly loud noises.
dakeroni
EVERYONE LITERALLY LEARNS TRICKLE DOWN ECONOMICS DONT WORK LIKE THE FIRST WEEK OF ANY ECON CLASS
dangeroushorses
Spending money to make money is also the single most basic concept of business. If you aren't spending to make, you're probably stealing.
somethingaboutTV
You're assuming Trump supporters have taken economics classes.
dangeroushorses
Wasn't it like 80 or 90% of his voters don't have even an associates degree?
somethingaboutTV
I don't have the voting data in front of me but I don't believe it was quite that high.
Luscus
Lower than that, but he got +80% of the votes of those without any college degree.
Subtilico
And even if it would work, it would be a perverse system.
jbird84
Generalization is he problem both sides are snowballing this to extremes
Ilovegold
Over generalizing generalization is also the problem. We'd be better off if people didn't over generalize in general
BanadecCamberbootch
Social media has been the death of intellectual discourse.
CirclejerqueDuSoleil

It's the Internet period. 15-20 years ago, people believed studies. Now if I don't like your facts, I'll just find some new ones that work.
definitelynotaseagull
I swear there's a Simpson's episode about exactly that.
MadDucks
There's a Simpsons episode about everything.
IreallyMGur
Trump supporters complaining that they're not racist aren't acknowledging that they voted for someone who is, and that was fine with them
thestorkasaurus
And anyone who voted for Obama must support droning the shit out of brown people halfway around the world, right?
dnd3edm1
It's not so much that as giving these bigoted voices the office of the presidency is going to kill people.
IreallyMGur
And at the very least acknowledge that he stoked / encouraged and sought support of those who are racist then ignored the consequences
OneTARDIStoRuleThemAll
I wouldn't say he's racist or sexist or whatever. He winked at the alt right, part of whom may be, but who knows if it will affect policy.
badgerbadgersquared
I do not feel that they do this. I think you're believing the news too much.
TestAccount321
Nothing will endear me more to the "poor downtrodden white man" than knowing he'd sooner see my neck stepped on than have to feel bad
nakedfeet
Yeah I don't think you understand how this works. I don't think the Democratic party is making any kind of blanket statement like that.
perlsucks

Tom40
Missed that, sorry.
PlantainSuperNova
Bro it's in the title.
Menasyng
I think this is an example of the problem. People lack critical thought. They're so insistent on one thing and ignore the obvious. Tsk.
trottingtoohot
I don't think that is part of their offical policy, OP. Who told you that being white and male automatically makes you all those things?
lolaluftnagel
A lot of people say that. Maybe not directly from the DNC but definitely people who are not republicans
somethingaboutTV
1) This is the problem about learning about world news through social media like imgur. If most of your info came from here then of course

God that makes me so angry. Fucking "War on Christmas" bullshit. Being inclusive of others doesn't mean that they suddenly hate Christians.
chocomallow
I only hated Christmas that one year where in my area they started playing carols in September. Serious, fucking September!
Potaterzpotateyo
While I agree with your point, I literally never saw anyone but that one dude care about the cups, and he's batshit .
anamolhouse
As someone from a Catholic family. They never stopped bitching about the war on Christmas
davidle93
Doesn't change the fact that American Christians think there is a war against them. We non-Christians simply don't want Christian Sharia.
AllYourPeppermintAreBelongToMe
That was a bs bait setup by a liberal with a camera. The only people I heard bitching about the cups were the ones setting bait.
pawesomeopossum
Naive or just fucking stupid?
IAmJacksRagingBileDuct
Even Chris Matthews pointed out that the Democrats lost because they told white people their problems aren't real, just like you did here.
wattietoohottie
Tough titty, I'm sick of all these pansies who need their feeling protected or even acknowledged.
qwermmm
Not acknowledging that everyone has their own troubles and difficulties is exactly how we don't make things better
IAmJacksRagingBileDuct
Then I hope you enjoy a second term of President Trump.
chickadeedeedeedee
Ironically, elected by people who think people are too concerned about their feelings being hurt.
IAmJacksRagingBileDuct
If you tell people "You're what's wrong with America" based on the color their skin, why would they vote for you?
JohnJacobJingleHeimerSmitt
I dont think hes saying hes a victim, but pointing out the hypocrocies in their platform that caused alot of voters to vote like OP
PamelaSplooshPoovey
How dare you used logic and objectivity?!? Downvotes!!
JohnJacobJingleHeimerSmitt
The funny thing is getting a comment massively downvoted here almost gives it more exposure than the upvoted ones lol
PamelaSplooshPoovey
Haha it's the Edward Macaroni Fork phenomenon
TheLethargarians
Thank you, and yes.
JohnJacobJingleHeimerSmitt
Man people get butthurt over opinions
RedroverRedrover
Do you have a source for the hypocrisy in their platforms?
EarlGreyOrDeath
See as that's not the party but individuals who associate with it, I can apply that to mean the GOP preaches racist, bible thumping ideals?
JohnJacobJingleHeimerSmitt
lol yeah sure man Id agree with you, both parties are full of hypocrisy. But Trump was seen as separate from the GOP party or "establishment
mechanicalhemiola
when tf did they insinuate you being white means you're by default racist when all their candidates were white?

deekerz
he saw it on a facebook video so it must be the truth

They never did... maybe he means when hillary called racists and homophobes deplorable.
WhatRaySay
there is absolutely no true basis for this circle-jerk victim narrative that white men have so feverishly adopted in recent years. nada
Baja2185
Youre allowed to not be racist if you agree with party lines and call out other whites doe their inherent racism
trackthelost
Here in the Bay Area, I've found that SJW have a definition for every white male and why their point is invalid, regardless of context.
FrenchPressBenchPress
Do you mean every white male or just you...
OldManTaylor
For real! Being middle class and white doesn't make you racist. Supporting and voting for an openly racist person kinda does tho
edissick
this. @OP you are retarded, dont blame it on the democrats.
happynessisawarmpotato
Have you seen what's happening on American college campuses in the last 10 years? Feminist, SJW, BLM, pronouns & identity politics.
Beelsebooob
What have those college campuses, and things that may or may not be happening/exagerated on them got to do with the democratic party?
GogglesGreek
There aren't that many, you aren't being attacked, you've just been convinced that they're your enemy and that they're out to get you.
happynessisawarmpotato
This was a response to the comment. Not some boiled down analogy about the whole political climate.
galspanic
1/ Yes. And it's definitely the minority of people with these "extreme" views. Most people are pretty moderate/normal despite this idea...
ForTheLoveOfBoobies
Those are just young people being well young people
galspanic
3/ or at least a lot did.
galspanic
2/ that the whole world is hyper polarized. And the Democrats are not academics. We/academics thought Clinton was a Republican.
GilaMonsieur
Are you saying academics are even further to the left than Democrats?
galspanic
Not all, but historically yes. Left leaning ideas and intellectual research tend to go hand in hand more that conserving traditional ideas.
GilaMonsieur
So if a professor teaches that being white = being racist due to privilege and institutionalized sexism, is that moderate or extreme?
GilaMonsieur
It's more a cultural trend associated with the left in general, which is the democratic party's base.
motorwaffle
The 10,000 articles my facebook friends are sharing that start with "Dear White People..." certainly seem to point that way.
RedroverRedrover
But is that the party pushing that rhetoric? Seems like that's a response to a racist being voted in. That's not the cause. Unless you're /1
RedroverRedrover
saying these articles came out before the election. /2
motorwaffle
These articles have been coming out for years. Or my Liberal Art graduate friends have a TARDIS.
edissick
THE JUST STOP USING FACEBOOK TO INFORM YOURSELF. IF YOU HAVE LIKE TWO BRAIN CELLS YOU SHOULD KNOW THIS
motorwaffle
Wow, your caps lock totally refuted my point. I'm not informing myself on facts with them, dipshit, but on the people around me's attitudes.
collincoalforchristmas
I suggest you find smarter friends... ones that don't address an entire race to generalize them... unless you enjoy that level
pawesomeopossum
Well, they are his friends.
HandsomeSwede
"Seem to point that way"? Your misunderstanding does not make it so.
motorwaffle
Then please explain to me what you really mean and why said articles are addressed to my race as a whole.
HandsomeSwede
What 'I' mean? I didn't write nor link any article. Show me one and maybe I can give it a go.
HandsomeSwede
Also, your Facebook friends are not the Democratic party.
motorwaffle
Nope, sorry. You can't judge the opposition by their worst examples then pull that shit.
pawesomeopossum
Worst examples: a few wingnuts vs the PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE AND VP AND HALF THE FUCKING PARTY LEADERS. Yeah, totally the same.
RedroverRedrover
Lol, their worst examples? You mean Donald Trump? Yeah, we CAN judge by the leader of the damn party.
HandsomeSwede
But...OP specifically targeted the Democratic party. So did the person you responded to, ergo your FB friends don't count.
LondonSing
The 'basket of deplorables' comment and constant media hammering + supporters; the party didn't necessarily do it, but in my experience 1/3
LondonSing
the vast majority of those supporting the party do do it. Stuff like was everywhere post-election: http://imgur.com/x7fUFxQ 2/3

RedroverRedrover
It's not racism to point out that whites DID vote Trump in. It IS privilege to be able to vote for a racist and know you won't be affected.

"Those fucking blacks and jews voted in Obama, guess it's hard not for them to not ruin everything, as usual." Is this racist? The third 1/2
LondonSing
party article is saying 'if you're white then you should vote only as minorities want you to.' How in any way is that okay? 2/2
RedroverRedrover
This is the part of the narrative that really pisses me off. Who exactly in the party has been spreading this message? I'm white and have /1
RedroverRedrover
never heard a word about it. It seems to me that some white people think that if it's not always 100% focused on them, they're being left /2

out. Whites are the core of both parties. The people saying this shit just can't handle some attention being put on other groups too. /3

krotkruton
@redroverredrover ^ that comment, I believe, embodies what OP is talking about.
MisleadingTLDRbutnotentirelywrongeither
In my experience in Boston I hear lots of students blaming all straight white males for all the world problems. I don't listen but it happen
SpaceSpeed
But the issue is, are those students reflective and representative of the DNC? I don't think the party itself has made those statements
[deleted]
[deleted]
TakWriterOfWorlds
The Democratic Party does not, and has never, preached that. It's a strawman set up by the right that plays to a certain bias.
GilaMonsieur
Que? Obama and Bill didn't heavily imply that some men weren't voting for HRC because they were sexist against her?
Menasyng
I mean, people were literally saying that in some interviews. Supporters were rocking sexist t-shirts calling her a cunt. That's clear.
pawesomeopossum
You honestly think that wasn't a factor?
GilaMonsieur
Not nearly as much as they'd like to think. It is possible for a woman to simply not be a good candidate.
DVSBSTrD
"I know you are but what am I?"
tarrbot
Watch this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLG9g7BcjKs Zero in on the point about calling people deplorable, racist, sexist.
TakWriterOfWorlds
I don't watch videos. Can you sum it up in three words or less. Or more of you need.
tarrbot
Libs put up a shit candidate and have no one to blame but themselves for lack of debate rather than calling people deplorables, racists, etc
HeyDontBeADick
Hillary is a bad candidate and she herself was overconfident and dismissive. But does that mean the voters/supporters think this?
Menasyng
You realize these protests aren't about Clinton losing right? It's about someone as racist and bigoted as Trump winning on those policies.
tarrbot
Did I ever mention protests or protesters?
RedroverRedrover
The deplorables comment was a reaction to actual racist things said by Trump and cheered by his supporters. It wasn't applying to all /1
tarrbot
No shit. Can't really use that as a defense though since it ducking backfired and riled them all up
RedroverRedrover
Repubs, just the ones supporting the racist, sexist, xenophobic rhetoric. /2
TakWriterOfWorlds
If you want to broad stroke the whole thing then yeah, that makes some sense, but it's more complicated than that.

The muslim ban, didn't denounce white supremacists, hiring of Bannon, said laziness is a trait in blacks, called mexicans rapists...

The middle class was one of trumps main points in his campaign, I think that was his main reason for winning
gtmiller
A third party in the current situation takes over for 1 of the 2 or is irrelevant. There needs to be a political renaissance.
Dokramuh
Not necessarily. A third party that would have a 33% "share" of the power would do well for you guys, add a fourth and keep going
gtmiller
That only really is viable in a format that uses first pass the vote.
Dokramuh
I don't think so, the only way I see the two parties wanting to change anything is if they have less power. Eventually they'll change FPTP
gtmiller
Which is why it has to be done at the state level. Our nation has the capacity to make the change.
DonPense
A 1st and 2nd party without nutjobs would be a great start.
FragrantViolation
How about we take all of the nutjobs and move them to the 3rd party
TheLethargarians
Indeed it would be.

At this point I would vote third party even if their candidate were Godzilla. Possibly Mothra. Which now that I think about, is better.

What you need is to abandon the first-past-the-post voting system, and abolish the electoral college. News no longer travels by horseback.

The first day of class she announced, "If you can't deal with the fact that white men ruined the world, you should drop this class."
