I heard it has a lot to do with them having poor eye sight. Because they can't see well enough to know if something is a true threat, they charge by default.
That's not "killed by moose" that's driver error. When you know there are wild animals around why wouldn't you slow down? Tourists kill so many animals driving through Yosemite every year. Bears, deer, fox. All mowed down by people in a hurry to experience wildlife.

10-15 killed in moose attacks per year in NA, 1-3 by bears, so very rare but still a bigger chance to get killed by moose.
