Not being an engineer, I would assume the red is free spinning and the moon shape is to lock it into place after the peg turns the gear

No 2 is a Boxer engine used by Subaru and Porsche. No 3 is the Wankel (Rotary) engine used by Mazda.

No 1 is a traditional rotary used commonly in propeller planes, no 5 is a cv joint used in most front wheel drive vehicles, no 6 is a Geneva

Radial engines were used not just in aircraft, but tanks and cars (particularly in racing cars) and marine applications also.

#1 is a radial engine, not a rotary engine. A rotary is a type of radial engine where the crankshaft is stationary and the cylinders rotate.

Mechanism, no 7 is a Geneva gear (used in a lot of watches) and no 8 is a 4 speed manual transmission:) I'm sure you know these too though.

That looks like the basis of a Wankel rotary and Mazda does not own that patent. I believe nobody does. That engine obliterates oil.

You have to inject oil directly into the compression chamber to keep it lubed. So you're burning an amazing amount of oil. 'nuff said.

The main problem here is the people that don't keep checking the oil. Part of owning a car like this is to maintain it and take pride in it.

remove oil injector, don't check oil, add 2 cycle to the gas. boom. problem solved. It's now a weed eater.
