CRTs must be used. HD upscaling will cause lag. If several frames of lag don't bother you, you are a waste of life.

Not really. TFTs only look good if used at or close to native resolution, whereas CRTs will give you a clear image at any resolution (1/2)

Most SNES games for example only have 57,344 Pixels. That'd be an >8 million pixel upscale. The image will get blurry eventually (2/2)

You generally want an old CRT for old games, and a high clarity sound system can expose annoyances in some chiptunes.
