No protection needed when behind drywall & wooden edging. USA- green is ground. It doesn't normally carry current unless there's a fault.

Green is normally a ground and no electrical is not normally in conduit in residential construction.

Depends upon code, but as long as they're intact and don't carry a lot of current they should be okay.
