I agree with sentiment and message of the post, but one big caveat.... bananas are functionally finite; they take time, space and resources to grow, process and store. Money, as it is today... doesn't. Enough people just have to agree that, for instance, one account has X amount of currency, and suddenly and magically, said account has that amount of currency. But again, I agree with the sentiment and message.

I think this is genuinely the problem. For the vast majority of human existence, greed wasn't such a big problem because the rest of the village could just take what they need from hoarder villagers, and the hoarder could learn to cope or die mad about it in the wilderness. There didn't need to be as much impulse control against greed.

This analogy makes it seem like there's a finite amount of money in the supply and there isn't. We just keep making it perpetuate as a social construct. The bananas are tangible and limited. Also, monkey and other animals do generally fight over limited resources.

But if he built the plantation, they're all his bananas, not theirs. He's giving them a share in exchange for picking them. They can always start their own plantations and cut into his banana "profits".

They cannot start their own plantation, because even if they ate all of the bananas they get as payment, they still starve. They will not survive long enough for their trees to grow. That's not counting how the first monkey has it set up so that monkey society is hostile to small busi-- small plantations. Or how he takes BACK a portion of the bananas he pays them to maintain the infrastructure.
Also, none of this considers that his bananas are worthless if they rot on the trees.

There were times when my kids were you that I worked three jobs, one full-time and two part-time, just to make ends meet. It's called busting your ass to get ahead instead of demanding what isn't yours. You think that monkey just woke up one morning, owning most of the bananas?
