My Teardrop Build

Finale product we went with a barn theme the old barn wood for the sides was the most expensive part of this whole build but i think it looks damn good. Time To go road trippin:-)

This was a project i did before my wife and i moved to Alaska. We wanted to build a camper that was light and easy to tow but had basic amenities like a comfy bed a kitchen and storage space. Sorry for the sort of bad photos they were taken on my phone. We started off with a 5 by 8 bolt together trailer. This pic is it all put together. Knowing what i do now i would have welded my own, bolts pop easily on bumpy roads.

I'm a carpenter in my off time i love woodworking its relaxing and makes since to me. So i decided to make this little trailer out of wood instead of aluminum. Here is the frame that gets bolted to the trailer frame. I did go a little overkill with the bolts I used 12 five in long bolts to attack the floor these bolts have breaking point of 15 thousand lbs.

Tar all done had to let it set a week because it was to cold.

I'm so happy i found these stabilizing jacks they were cheap and easy to install and use the are spring loaded and i can put them up and down with one hand.

Time for some math Yay this is my homemade compass before i cut the front and back curve.

cross beams in. guys save some weight use 2x2s instead of 2x4s it will be plenty strong.

Interior walls in that was a pain in the ass the wood did not want to bend into place i broke 2 sheets of 1/8th inch plywood before i got it to fit.

This was the start of the hardest part. The back hatch for the kitchen.

Glued and screwed I forgot to take pics of the process but ratchet straps were involved and lots of cursing.

This was where i needed help I'm scared of electricity i had a friend wire for me that battery runs 2 lights a ceiling fan and a plug for phone chargers. I also can hook up to shore power to charge the battery and use a tv and 3 other outlets for whatever i need.

Back hatch finally in and it looks pretty good. its water tight and that is all that matters.

Insulation in and outer shell on. Yay no more ugly wires.

Interior looking good the finish are old grocery bags mauge podged to the wood.

TV nook with DVD shelf

1 to 3 watt ceiling fan it will run about a week on that one battery it keeps the inside quite cool even during 100 degree days.

outside shell done its old barn roof metal corrugated steel roof. Should last a good long time and it looks cool

Kitchen done with gas oven/range i can also hook up a hose to run the sing if need be. That's a copper counter top and even a Jade hot pad

Finished door with window. Also we got a nice queen sized 8 in foam bed and cut it into 3 pieces for easy access to the floor storage.

Finished kitchen the handle on the top is a piece of Diamond Willow from our first trip to Alaska it fit perfectly. Also that's not my plate number anymore :-P

inside the headboard is cork and we pinned postcards to it. Sorry for bad pic this was all on my Ipod touch. Also some more storage in the cabinets above.
