Time for me to move to California

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I'd move to California even if I had to walk there.

2 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

This actually will piss him off. He can't stand being mocked.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I think the rest of the US would be totally OK with selling Cali, and I think Cali would be totally OK with being sold. Haha

here’s a non-X link to similar content.

“…immediate flights to California…”

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Honestly, the red states would just be absolutely fucked if California left the union.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Please also buy Oregon. We have Intel fabs and Nike's HQ...

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I, for one, welcome our new Danish overlords.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Good to know, your mobile oppression palace won't build itself get started

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What’s hilarious is how much of the federal budget blue states pay for. I wish this would happen.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I don’t think they have the $$$ for that 5th largest economy and all. But what if California loaned them the capital?

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I mean, who even sets the price? If California sets the price maybe they're sold for a good danish dessert.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

DANIFORNIA!

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Dani California can be our state song

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Can we thrown in Oregon with the deal?

2 years ago | Likes 79 Dislikes 0

And Wisconsin. We're close enough, right?

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I mean, the Cascadia part of Oregon would like to come along. The rest wants to be... Greater Idaho and that just sounds like the hell they deserve.

2 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

F them, they can move to Idaho. Or we can force them out. I'd looove some property near John Day if all the crazies were gone.

Mainer just waiting for Canada to invade, annex us and provide us with healthcare.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

No need to fight over us, we'll take you both

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Jeg kan Lear dansk !!!

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As a Dane, that's great, just put a potato in your mouth and talk through that. You'll fit right in

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

👍

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

fun fact: the danish pastry is actually Viennese. if you're in Denmark and ask for a Danish pastry, they'll give you a funny look but you will eventually get your pastry. that's as close to passive-aggressive as they get

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's because Austrian bakers brought their recipes of sugar bread to Denmark during a strike among danish bakers in the 1850's. For some reason Denmark got the credit for that.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

wow didn't know that

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They're called wienerbrød in Denmark. Asking for a "Danish pastry" might land you a translation error (pastry is a broad category after all), but that oughta be about it.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

when i experienced it, it was usually americans, and the danes knew what they were asking for. they were never rude about it though, seemed like more of an inside joke than anything

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They need to buy more. Taking just California would doom all other blue states to Gilead. Take the blue, leave the rest.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Problem is, all states are purple.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So can we finally divide states as Metro areas and the rest of the state? The tri-state area really should've just been one state - NYC Metro area. CA wants to be like 6 states but even 3 makes sense. DC should be a state.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

State capital would be moved to Solvang of course.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I've been to Solvang dozens of times. This comment makes me so happy.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As a Scandi that has driven through Solvang a few of times when visiting, damn that town looks nothing like any parts of Denmark I've seen. More Dutch chic. No idea if the dining options are properly Danish, never had the opportunity to stop.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You had me at "Rule of law"!

2 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

You underestimate how many pastries I can eat in a lifetime

2 years ago | Likes 52 Dislikes 1

that depends heavily on what they're laced with

Especially with a real health care system to keep you alive longer despite all the diabeetus and heart disease.

2 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Do Vermont next. We can be be New Scandinavia if you want.

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Isn't that the state that Bernie Sanders is representing. He's basically the most Scandinavian politician you have.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If anything, California could be its own country. Pretty sure their GDP alone could buy another country.

2 years ago | Likes 72 Dislikes 1

Los Angeles alone has a higher population and GDP than Denmark. If they pull off this purchase, Copenhagen would be the *seventh* largest city in Denmark, and Danish would be the third-most-spoken language, with Chinese not too far behind. Their national guard has about as many people as the Danish armed forces.

On the plus side, California already has a Legoland, so Danish cultural outreach has a good starting point.

2 years ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 0

California gets delicious pastries, and Denmark gets to experience the joys and wonders of Mexican food.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I must remember, Lego is already plural. There are no Legos. Lego is already plural...

2 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Thank you for your service!

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think California, if it was its own country, would have the 5th highest GDP in the world.

2 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

3rd. California alone is slightly behind Japan in #3. With Denmark that would put them just behind China.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I just meant California alone and it looks like 6th https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(nomina">nominal)">https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(nominal) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_and_territories_by_GDP

Californians say they're not keen on the idea of having a king (Frederik X) but they think the new flag is a big plus...

2 years ago | Likes 801 Dislikes 7

Plus, if their baseball teams keep playing the US. It will really be a world series.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Fun fact, dad of a (Dutch) friend bought an old house in France, tiny rural settlement few miles from a small village where the neighbor would walk out with his shotgun draped over his arm to see who we were when us 20 year olds drove up to the house for a holiday. When friend was there when they just bought the house, they registered for a petanque (Jeu de Boule) tournament and the organisers renamed it an INTERNATIONAL tournament ;)

2 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 1

Well he completed training with them at least.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Kings aren't all bad - in extremis you can decapitate them. Or exile them if that seems a bit drastic.

2 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 1

Yeah, many nations do have a tradition of assassinating kings around these parts.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

To be fair, we have a couple occurrences of people deciding a president was better off with bullet holes. And we're very likely in extremis, right now. (Apologies if I used that phrase incorrectly)

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

the thought "Yeah, guillotine is a bit drastic. Let's just use a woodchipper instead" is hilarious

We can use the body mulch as fertilizer

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, looks like they're gonna get a king whether they like it or not. So why not go for the actual human being, instead of the orange shitstain?

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Oh no, we didn't get the coolest state flag just to give it up.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

But dude...free health care and no cheeto....

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

From your priorities I can tell you haven't eaten danish pastries.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dane here and kind of republican. (Not the party!!) Our Kingdom is a kind of paradox, but most of the European kingdoms are quite well functioning as societies and so are we. The king's duty is to ratify any new government and that's about it. He has no formel executive power. You'll like Frederik the tenth better than Donald the first.

2 years ago | Likes 120 Dislikes 1

Yup. Totally agree

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As long as I can still root for Pogačar over Vingegaard in the Tour, I'm ok.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You can root for anyone you want, but you will have to appreciate Handball if you become part of the Danish kingdom.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Deal!

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Isnt Donald the Jester to President Musk? Or Donald the Worst?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My guy, I like a pile of dog shit I just stepped in with brand new Louboutins better than I like tRump. Your king is a pretty chill dude and waaay beats the bar of 'more likeable than tRump'.

2 years ago | Likes 67 Dislikes 0

The bar is so low it went past bedrock twice and is now in orbit

2 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

To use one of my favourite phrases.

"The bar is so low the devil uses it to limbo"

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They pretty much only serve as a backup for if the government shuts down or fails somehow these days, technically they're still doing it 'for the royals' so they can get fired if the government pulls that shit. (happened in AUS a while back, the US would have -so many- opportunities on government shutdowns!)

Besides, the orange guy is acting like an old-fashioned king and the rich guy is just as bad (but unelected, so even more like an old-fashioned king I guess) so you're there already.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, I see this as a real plus!

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

This is the only thing that could possibly get me to even think about moving back, but if they got Oregon too I'd choose that instead.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Like seriously. Wtf. I will vote for this.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sending my hell yes from Long Beach!

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Look. We have a land border with Denmark, and one with France. That qualifies us for the EU.

Bring WA and OR with CA, and we can start talking about annexing the rest of Northern Mexico into a 1st world country.

Who's with me?

2 years ago | Likes 74 Dislikes 1

Certainly not against you my guy.

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

I'll speak for washington... you had me at... getting the hell away from this dystopian nightmare we are living in... universal healthcare and pastries sound nice too

2 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 1

As a Washingtonian living in Oregon, sign me up...

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Can you take Minnesota with you?
I can't move down there due to a disability that prevents my body from properly regulating temperature. I cannot handle the heat, literally.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How would you protect the border?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's easy! Mr. Trump solved it in a heartbeat - a pit of crocodiles. The most beautiful pit of crocodiles you have ever seen.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Canada has a solid military and the trio of California, Oregon, and Washington have a hefty amount of military hardware and personnel.

Given the fucking catastrophe that is the Trump presidency, I would not be shocked if the majority of those states are willing to secede.

You know you can be both serious and yet still allow yourself to have a little fun right? Embrace and admire the absurd from time to time. They can win on two fronts, there's the obvious one they're building to, the other is demoralizing you. If you smile while you beat them down, you'll demoralize them, instead. Don't let the bastards grind you down. It's only going to get tougher soon. Be willing to go a little mad, or the anger and fear will consume everything faster than they can.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Speaking for us scandinavia here in Minnesota we will join ya

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Since I read it on the site, just a heads up for the Danes, palm trees are not indigenous to California. Just be aware of that and maybe plant more indigenous trees when you buy us. But otherwise please , I need more danish pastry, bike lanes, and trains here in California thank you. (I do realize those things are also not indigenous but we all get to pick and choose ok)

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You'll have to learn danish. The language, not the pastries. The language is so hard, even most danes are using it wrong.

2 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

Have you heard how they mangle English in the south?

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I mean, folks there already mangle Spanish and English, what's one more?

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

So they won't mind if I use it wrong.

2 years ago | Likes 382 Dislikes 4

Oklahoman here. Please knock me out so I can have a temporary reprieve from this insanity. I did vote today. It was probably pointless, but I did it anyways. The other candidates wanted to defund aid to homeless programs, expand police surveillance and use tax money to create an arena for our already wealthy public college. He has no backup plan for the homeless aid. Just for homeless children to suffer hungry on the street. Oh, and a needles turnpike that would destroy the lake in the area.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Seems like a good opportunity for California to reassert States’ Rights.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I would absolutely love to live "abroad" too. Unfortunately for us, I'm confident that GOP would never let California go. Deriding CA and its people every chance they get may win them easy points with their rabidly hateful voter base, but I'm quite certain that they're all fully aware of the fact that the US would be MUCH worse off without CA.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

5th largest economy in the world and largest in the US. They aren't that stupid(I think).

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 5

v I voted blue in CA. I donated and informed those I could.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

California didn't, tho. The last time a republican president won the general election in California was Reagan in 88. That was, admittedly, a pretty big fuck up, but it was also 37 years ago. Given demographic data for imgur users, it's fairly statistically likely that CA hasn't voted for a republican in your lifetime.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You have guns and Nazis in your country. That means you're choosing it.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I promise you that both of those things exist in some capacity wherever you live. When was the last time you shot a nazi?

And, as much as we'd all like it to be, it's unfortunately not quite that simple. Almost none of the nazis admit to being nazis, and the media has an unprecedented amount of influence over public opinion right now. One wrong move and all you've done is create more support for the nazis. Not to mention that civilian guns vs government arms are WORLDS apart. Can't buy missiles

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

California native here, I would welcome this. Same if Canada wants to adopt us.

2 years ago | Likes 1363 Dislikes 3

As a West coast Canadian, we've been pushing the Cascadia movement for decades

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Why would we want to take on all those wildfires?

If you toss the drone pillot in prison for at least 10 years you can be a Province.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fun fact: California is the only state with a GDP larger than Canada.

2 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

I'd move back to Cali in a heartbeat if it could somehow get out of this dumb country

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

As a dual citizen (born in Canada, naturalized in the US) I’d welcome it *except* that California alone has nearly as many people as all of Canada. Destabilizing Canadian politics would defeat the point.

If you’re serious, then step one is a plan to peacefully secede from the US and to harmonize state laws with Canadian federal ones to the extent possible. That’s not trivial!

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We'd make a deal for Washington and Oregon to, but not the part east of the Cascades too many rednecks there they can join Idaho

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

3rd or 4th largest economy in the world (depending on assessment).

US citizen who moved to Canada: it's not as good as you think. Don't get me wrong, I'm not moving back to the US any time soon, but it's not quite the wonderland we often think it is.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As a Canadian I'd welcome you if you guys could ditch the handguns.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Much as I love my native land and would like to see it governed better, (1) CA succession would be a disaster for the rest of the US and (2) you might be disappointed by how big Canada's right wing is.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As someone who lived in California and now Washington, how about Canada just takes the west coast.

2 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

Odd of trump making a move for canada are low. But as far as plebyscites go, the biggest issue is that the Canadian supreme court ruled it was legal for a canadian province to leave the confederation, and the US supreme court ruled it was illegal for a state to leave. Even if you tried it as a counter maneuvre its legally dead.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Trump is ignoring the supreme court. So can we.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Had to visit a customer in Maine a while back. Total magat. He told me he would love it if Canada would take everyone from California. I asked him why and he couldn't give a definitive answer but said he doesn't like them so I challenged him further and countered with "but you don't even live there. Why would you care? You live completely on the opposite side of the country. How could you judge an entire state full of people like that?" He got pissy and changed the subject. Fucking moron.

Many Canadians would be willing to help you out, trust me. If you need a good lawyer, an old friend of mine was excellent. Though we don't talk anymore, she's got a good heart and does immigration, often helping those who need it for no charge. She's good people.

Me too. I tried Austin, TX for a while but got priced out of there also. Now I'm in Ohio.

Yeah, Austin was flooded with ex-Californians for a while. We left Austin because it got too expensive.

I find this to be false, no one MOVES to Ohio, Ohioans just kinda materialize and immediately want to leave (speaking as a former Ohio resident)
