Wanted to share this recipe with Imgurians who might be interested. I’ve been cooking this dish for over 30 years so can’t remember where I first found it. Any way, enjoy!

Looking at this while hungry sure does make me salivate. Thanks for reminding me to eat

Wait... This seems awefully a lot like my italian sauce for pasta. IT IS MY ITALIAN SAUCE FOR PASTA!!!

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This is totally American italian ;)) great start ... needs other veggies and more heart ;))

Happy enough they didn't add oregano, which is basically just used in some recipes in the South, but Americans put it in every Italian dish.

Yum, if i wasn’t living somewhere where it was 35°c and i just got out the pool, that would be great.

Doesn't stop the Greeks serving you Lamb Stifado at the height of their summers.

Replying to this old post, while once again this soup is simmering.. absolutely wonderful, thnx for the recipe ???

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What a misnomer, there appears to be no heart in it whatsoever.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Heart goes in from beginning

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Will try this with turkey sausage.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I guess you can knead in some Italian spices. Personally I’d add some fennel seed to it.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That looks more like a stew to me than a soup... but delicious all the same!

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

i shall make it this week! thank you!!

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thank you. I’m gonna try this.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Soon as my money happens this is happening.

5 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Useful tip I learned: If you order the ingredients based on when they're added, there's a smaller chance you'll add them early accidentally.

This is great and all, but where is the 8000 word novella about your life and how this recipie once saved a small island nation?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My life is so boring I didn’t want to inflict my soup story on you

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You didn’t put how much heart to put in it. By weight or unit? Cow or pig?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ohhh yummy this looks a lot like a recipe I love with sausage tomatoes, white beans, and spicy spices

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We do olive oil and chopped parsley on top to make it seem more fancy :)

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is a stew.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Been cooking this for a few times now. Refine with basil and some spice, perfect. Thnx for the idea!

American measures always make me laugh. X spoon and cup instead of a weight haha

5 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 2

Yeah, 3/4 cup? Wtf does that even mean?

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Just 3/4 any size cup you have in the cupboard. But for real I forget how many cups in a gal. Tablespoons in a cup. Such a silly system.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Also, I’d bet many Americans don’t even have a kitchen scale. Was a time, only peeps I knew had scales were drug (pot) dealers.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I blame Jimmy Carter

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Pretty sure it was Ronald who said that decimal system was unamerican. Truth was Americans wouldn't understand it and so stick with Imperial

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Or the old British system. Ironic really.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So, when do I put in the heart? That wasn't easy to get you know!

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The heart goes in as soon as you begin preparing to cook. Keep adding heart throughout cooking and serving.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Soup, 4000 gallons, hot.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm italian and we have nothing like this. Sounds tasty, tho.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don’t disillusion me, please

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you OP..I've been looking for new recipes for my family..

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you! I’m a fan of simple recipes. Will be on the lookout for more that I can share with Imgurians.

.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

@OP made this tonight with a few added things for 7 people and thought I needed to double the recipe. Turns out I did not. It was amazing

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That makes me happy! Thankx.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don’t tell me how to live! I will serve soup in cups if I like! \_òÓ_/

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I like soup served in cups too. With cups, a lot less soup ends up in my beard!

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Garlic powder?

5 years ago | Likes 92 Dislikes 7

It's not the greatest but in a pinch it does come clutch

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Green bell pepper?!

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I am with you. I get it. But it is baller. Sure add fresh, fried or boiled but there is something amazing about garlic powder. I put it in 1

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Scrambled eggs. Noone has time for chopping fresh garlic in the morning

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Only a 1/4.......

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Hardly worth it!

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

1/4 tsp is more ‘standardized’ than 1 clove for reproducibility. (How big a clove? Should I use that Elephant garlic?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes!

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Thanks. This reminds me i need to plant some garlic in my vegetable garden

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why not straight up minced garlic?

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

I often add both in my food. The powder is an umami boost but the fresh gives a delightful aroma.

5 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

I do both as well, no such thing as too much garlic

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

You people and your fancy fresh garlics.. like I have the time or money

5 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 2

You can buy garlic paste, still better than powder.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Buy a jar of minced garlic, homie. Anything is better than that powdered shit.

5 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Eh, I'd argue it's worth it, but I can understand the end-of-day fukitol attitude.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Also, what do you mean "Italian sausage"? Do you know how many varieties the Italian cuisine has? What is that supposed to be

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

If you can’t afford garlic how can you afford the other ingredients in this soup?

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

Time- buying fresh all the time, and peeling and/or crushing; money- buying fresh that won't keep as long as powdered

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Crush it and freeze it.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Ok, jeez, now you're telling me to sacrifice FREEZER space? Ya'll just flexin' now. :P

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

What is supposed to be expensive? the sausage? The...bell pepper?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The garlic according to you.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 5

$8 gets me enough garlic for like a whole year. and "time" was also a factor you seemed to have glossed over.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I almost never look at these anymore bc i cant make most of them, but this one i can totally make! Im excited to try, thank you for sharing!

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0
