Mama, just killed a dog

(english isn't my maternal language, forgive my mistakes)

This happened a couple of summers ago. I was on vacation and had traveled to an island that I usually go in Brazil. It was night and I was reading a book (The Empty Throne by Bernard Cornwell) when my local friend come to me asking for help. She was terrified and breathless, shaking her hands like a child who didn't know what to do, I got up quickly and I went to her help. She told me that her dog was poisoned by some restaurant owner who doesn't like animals circling near his customers (on the beach). before left home I caught some capsules of activated charcoal, I read in a book (The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss) that it may helps by absorbing the poison ingested.
The dog's condition was terrifyingly sad, he was crying and panting abnormally, I put him on my lap and held strongly trying to content the spasms (luckless), someone in the little agglomeration went to search a doctor or some medicine (told him to find corticosteroid, i've read about it in some blog), at meantime our little buddy (not so small, he was a 60 pound Boxer of pure muscle) was suffering and pissing on me, i tryed to make him swallow the charcoal capsules, but it was impossible. When the stranger arrived with the corticosteroid, the stupid bastard, drunk and breathless stuck the needle in the powder before than mix with the serum, clogging and ruining it. after an exhausting time no one could stand to see more suffering, the dog was fighting bravely and I decided to put an end on his pain.
I looked at my friend and received your permission by an exchange of glances. We both knew that there was no way to save him. So, with my beard wet with tears, I fondly placed my hands around his neck and pressed with all the strength that I have until he stopped moving.

On the same night we dug a pit in the backyard, veiled and buried a beautiful animal and a good friend.
