Doug Jones has given life, pathos, and a soul - to some of the most iconic creatures in fantasy, horror, and science fiction.
He played both the Faun, and the Pale Man in Pan's Labyrinth.
Playing the Faun included walking on stilts that made Jones seven feet tall, wearing a mask that reduced his vision to little more than a pinhole, and sharing a scene with an 11-year-old girl without somehow trampling her. After spending five hours every morning applying the costume, Jones had to remain in it all day; even resting between takes required special accommodation. Due to the character’s mechanized tail, Jones had to sit on a modified bicycle seat and lean forward on a special bar.
He was both Abe Sapien, and The Angel of Death in the Hellboy films.
The Ice Cream Man in Legion
The tallest gentleman of Buffy's 'Hush'
He was Billy Butcherson in Hocus Pocus for crying out loud!
And now, he's the Creature of the Oscar nominated 'The Shape of Water'.
Here's a list of 'accolades' The Shape of Water has been nominated for /received.
Of the 234 listed, Doug Jones has one credit - a 'Special Honorary Award' from Austin Film Critics Association.
If you want an injustice, there you have it.
Peace out.
captkiro
when i saw boss baby with a nomination I was genuinely upset. I saw boss baby and it did not deserve to be nominated over other films.
tegris22
And he beat Roy Moore!
Tarlon
Guillermo Del Toro should have made the Hobbit movies. :(
FunkyFunkyJones
Because all award shows are literally BS? Like, not #EdgyLife, they're literally weird politicking circuses and bribefests for marketing.
lawrabbit
Nobody in Hollywood cares about voice acting or character work.
IDanceToDisneySongs
Those gentlemen on Buffy really scared me.
profanelogic
Am I the only one who thinks The Shape of Water looks like Abe Sapien's origin story?
Noobalott
More likely the story of Abe's parents
rebelwithoutacosbysweater
Doug Jones once caressed my neck.

Wow.. not only a senator but a special effects artist
Darksnider05
Best angel of death ever.
MDtheGM
He's amazing in Star Trek Discovery.

Lego Batman got shafted too. It may not have been the winner, but it deserved a nod over Boss Baby. OG Lego Movie certainly got shafted.

Padding ton 2 was snubbed.
Dekker117
I specifically remember a scene in hellboy 2 when the doctor in the funky diving suit tossed abe sapien a pouch with whatever trinkets 1/2
Dekker117
Inside and the guy in the abe sapien suit had to catch it blind.
Icanalreadytelliwillbepopular
I'm only familiar with Boss Baby through it's appearance on CinemaSins. This is the first I've heard of it since then, so what's up?
expendableemo1
The shape of water just let my mermaid fetish fly. I’ve never wanted to bang a fish man so hard before
Buckbeak1486
Not going to lie, I have crushes on both the Faun and the Amphibious Man.
SomeCrazyNerd
Uhhh.

Buckbeak1486
Damn straight!
BreadInCaptivityBakery
Hey, at least Gary Oldman finally got a nomination!
awkwardxt
Thank you for this. He is an amazing actor and really deserves the credit!
SoundInLA
I've worked with him a couple times. He is an incredibly sweet human and deserves an oscar.
DontLookBackInAnger
#OscarsSoHuman
SerDire
The Oscars need to create an award for motion capture/practical makeup. Behind all the makeup and cgi, is a real actor busting his butt
Kabe59
The Academy can give special Oscars, too. If memory serves, James Cameron won one
esquelleto
If it's someone in prosthetics as a historical character, it's a best actor nomination guaranteed. A fictional creature, and it's VFX :/
SerDire
Gary Oldman in Darkest Hour pretty much
KeyLimePrime
Agreed, the fact Andy Serkis doesn't get more recognition always drives me crazy.
LasciviousHedgehog
Apparently there is some contention about how much of the performance is the animators and should they share credit or not.
esquelleto
1/2I agree that effects and animation teams should receive due credit as well, but to me this is no different than Hurt in The Elephant Man
esquelleto
2/2 A performance beneath a heavy and obscuring prosthetic, but a human performance none the less. Well. Fish man performance.
YerAGrizzardArry
This is why I don't care about award shows. It's very rare that there are actual deserving winners.
NightPainPoe
That is because the rewards are basically bought for, not earned.
jsktrogdor
I don't care about award shows because they're boring. They need more pizazz. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=apbnAHshuIM
chimchim666
i found boss baby really boring
Desertwanderer
Hmm, that's the issue with the Oscars. It is a popularity contest. Has (almost) nothing to do with quality. Also commercial success matters.
Thesonshade
Yeah. Fuck Andy Serkis, amirite?
DavidWentworthart
Andy is such an asshole for devaluing the people who make his performance possible. Serkis is less than half of his own performances.
Kabe59
Announce four best actor nominees. Then have Jones and Serkis fight to the death for the last nod.
jsktrogdor
I think Andy Serkis in the future is going to end up one of the most famous performers from our era. He's like Charlie Chaplin.
esquelleto
Apparently running around on your knuckles isn't a performance. Unless you're playing Jordan Belfort, then you're a freaking genious.
NyQuilDaydream
Did anyone else play Enslaved: Odyssey of the West? He was amazing in that game! It's such an underrated game.
SerDire
Can’t wait for Black Panther. Gollum and Bilbo will meet again
GlorpDieBlorp
That movie looks terrible. I'm hoping Avengers 3 doesn't rely on having seen it
BennyJ89
We just need Dr Strange in the mix
theladdzable
"Have we met before?" "No, Doesn't ring a bell"
SerDire
“How about a game of riddles?”
NZSheeps
Later. I'll give you a ring.
brusten0
Also currently doing good work on Star Trek Discovery.
CrazyCatLad
Is he the tall guy that lectures the blacktress?
serney
Even his stance seems alien and not just some jerk off in a costume. He really takes it to another level

Vajennas
That's because he's wearing hoof shoes. Basically 8 inch heels without the actual heel part so you are walking on your toes. 1/
Vajennas
It's rare that you get full body shot of him but when you do definitely check out his feet it looks extremely painful but graceful as hell
serney
I wonder if he gets to wear Converse while he's on break or if he has to stay in them for 14 hours
SerDire
How is that show? I’m still mad at CBS for putting it on their streaming service and expect me to buy ANOTHER subscription
Individualsocksinthewashingmachine
It has some really strong moments, some of it is pretty terrible. I wouldn't pay for it. Also seems to ignore canon weirdly
ImTheOriginalSam
I love it, but I am not a good person to ask. I'm way too biased about Star Trek
Bonsaipanda
It is awesome, best Trek I've seen in 20 years. Peeps keep moaning and whining about it, but as a Star Trek fan, I love it.
CTMGame
It is really great, but you may wanna wait till the blu rays come out.
Xatik
Really great show. Its on Netflix btw.
MostIndeedlySo
You'll probably enjoy it more if you don't think it as a Star Trek show. To me it's "Space Assholes". First half of season one was dreadful.
anonwhymouse
I've come to enjoy it as I consider it an alternate reality to the Trek prime series
MostIndeedlySo
Yeah. I'm not sure if I even would call it part of the Kelvin timeline, either. At this point STD could take place in the Discovery timeline
MostIndeedlySo
But they sort of got interesting after the mid-season break even though I still steer clear from calling it Star Trek. Also, the crew is...
MostIndeedlySo
not very likable and the only way they got me to like them, at least on some level, was to introduce others who are even bigger assholes.
Individualsocksinthewashingmachine
Gabriel Lorca is a fuckin psychopath. I kind of like that
Bonsaipanda
Latest episode explains why.

HE WAS IN SHAPE OF WATER. IT WAS AMAZING.

WAIT. THAT WAS IN THE POST. I'M SORRY, I'M JUST REALLY PUMPED ABOUT DOUG JONES.
