I'm sorry, imgur, I just can't anymore

Today while browsing on desktop, I was redirected to a site so corrupted, it completely locked down my browser. This is unacceptable. I realize that imgur may need ads, but absolutely no regulation is dangerous to their most precious possession: their fanbase. I'll check back every now and then to see if the problem has been fixed, but know you've lost a member due to unregulated advertisement causing worry while browsing.

I understand that a site has to make money but unless this stops, Adblock stays on. I'd also recommend NoScript for additional security.

Ironically, my mobile browser was just taken over....

*turns off adblock* Huh. *turns adblock on again*

Have no problems on my PC due to protection but everytime I use Imgur on my phone I go to this stupid virus website so I feel you.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I recommend you uninstall the app, rate it a 1 with a review, then wait for a report that it's fixed before giving it a second chance.

I've had three ads take me away to obvious spam sites just today

This happens on my phone!! I just got redirected to some YouTube video about watching hot sex!!!

I just got redirected to one too! That's bs & it me anxious. I'm on my phone but don't have the app, I don't use my phone for stuff.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I genuinely didn't know imgur had ads. I've used ad block since before I joined. The last straw for me was ads with sound. Not having it.

10 years ago | Likes 61 Dislikes 3

I once got a two hour ad on YouTube that was unskippable. No joke. Used AdBlock ever since, never looked back. Screw that noise.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I had a horror movie ad with a jumpscare in it on YouTube and I haven't turned off AdBlock (uBlock these days) since.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I run uBlock Origin. When I loaded this page, it told me it blocked 82 elements.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Imgur occasionally has ads with sound and some that auto direct to a malware site. Until they regulate better, I'm forced to block ads.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This, and websites that are too full of ads. I usually end up turning it off on sites that I like, but the second I get audio or 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

redirecting/popup ads I remove the exception and don't feel bad.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Me too. The first sound I'm not expecting, whether an ad or anything else - I'm gone that instant and I'm *never* coming back.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Ads? Imgur has Ads? Never noticed. Firefox + Adblock = no worries mate!

10 years ago | Likes 109 Dislikes 6

woow! thanks!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

As a ublock origin user, I wondered wtf OP was talking about.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I use it too (in combination with NoScript) but I like to "pay" for my favourite sites by clicking the occasional ad.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, the standard firefox Adblock works just fine. It seems to be the only one that isn't getting paid to let some through.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Chrome + Adblock = They have ads here?

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

adblockplus.org is the one you're talking about? looking to download now

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's the one. Mine's up to 505,704 ads blocked. 3 on this page. I looked up Imgur's adserver. Never again; they have sponsored posts.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

because chromes trash

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I feel like this is a community that should be capable of installing adblock. . .

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Most people get confused by reddits layout, you think they can install stuff?

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Point is, I don't mind seeing ads to support the site. But if they're bad ads, it'll go back on. Imgur should be told about this (again).

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

True, but that doesn't change the fact that malicious ads are completely unacceptable.

Have you forgotten about popups?

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

or their evil cousin popunders that have sound. ugh.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And advertisers have the nerve to accuse ad blockers of ruining the internet

10 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

Well, they are because more things are being put behind a paywall and there are more intrusive ads but it's a catch 22. The more 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

adblockers, the more intrusive ads because they pay more but that just causes more adblockers. It's not something that can be fixed easily.2/2

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Yes, yes it can be :) Check out Flattr Plus here: https://flattrplus.com/ You put in a bit of money per month and it delivers it to sites

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's called "Malvertising": " Websites or web publishers UNKNOWINGLY incorporate a corrupted or malicious advertisement into their page." /1

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 4

Upvoted in the hopes people see

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Just to make clearer my previous point,"unknowingly" isn't an excuse. Websites should never have started letting ads run unvetted JavaScript

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Maybe. Don't know much about PCs, but I do know human nature. To quote Dr. Ian Malcolm: "Malware... will find a way."

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes, and it wouldn't even be possible if ads were restricted to just an img src URL and an a href URL.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Ads in TV aren't popular, but they don't harm the TV, do they? I could live with tasteful static ads, but not with obnoxious, blinking, (1)

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

intruding, lying pop-ups etc. Rather billboards than something that screams in my face.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

This is why I only ever browse on mobile.

10 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 4

adblock works pretty good tho

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

This mostly affects mobile users. (Not the app, through the browser)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why the hell are their ads popping up on my mobile in-app wtf? And it's some@timed thing so I had to wait to close it- this is hecked

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Get ad block wifi and configure it to you wifi connection the ads should stop all of them been using it ever since the update

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Only if you're not using the official app....opengur is pretty decent

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So do i

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yup! Adblock the entire internet without exception, you'll enjoy life a lot more. The option exists to support specific people via Patreon.

10 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

The dark side of that is EVERY site and content creator needing a patreon. Which gets ridiculous and impossible to sort everything you love.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

True enough. At that point you just support who you want to, it probably ends up being more than the speculative/variable income from ads.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I didn't even know there WERE ads on this site until this. Yay, adblock!

PSA - Adblock (and other extensions) are off by default with Chrome incognito mode. Goto Chrome settings > extensions > allow in incognito

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

On a site like Imgur adblock shouldn't be a necessity to browse safely, yet it is. That is HUGE problem.

10 years ago | Likes 148 Dislikes 10

Seriously? Cancer is a huge problem, climate change is a huge problem. Browsing the Internet with Adblock is not a huge problem

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Context you ignoramus.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

It's true that it shouldn't be required, and I agree that that's unacceptable, yet it's a small and fast solution until the devs fix it.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Well with the amount of adNetworks they use i doubt that it will be fixed soon. http://imgur.com/zUHXPFF (oldish screenshot though)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fuck "shouldn't" and just use Adblock x10^7 easier than not using Adblock

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

But that doesn't help people make a living off the stuff you're enjoying for free

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

Hahaha I hope u joking man.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

No. Why would I be joking? How the hell do people expect to enjoy free content, have it work, but not pay anything or look at ads?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Malicious ads are now the primary vector for viruses. Until that's gone, ad-block everything, everywhere, all the time. Protect yourself.

10 years ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 0

Yep. Sites who require you to deactivate it to see there content are not to be trusted anyway.

10 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 2

Yeah, like the Wall Street Journal and Forbes...

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Makes me question their practices and motives. It's irresponsible from them to require you to whitelist their sites.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Still doesn't explain why you aren't using adblock.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

I never said I wasn't.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

Then why are you complaining?

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Because not everyone does and it's negligence on Imgur's behalf as a social site.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

All ads are malware. That is why i use adblock

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I browse at work and cannot install AdBlock. Should not need to for this site.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

@sarah I can't browse imgur on mobile anymore because of the browser hijacking ads. I now only do so on my desktop with uBlock on.

10 years ago | Likes 124 Dislikes 4

Yeah the app in my experience doesn't give you any ads (in UK)

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Have you tried the official mobile app? It has a couple, non-intrusive ads which don't redirect anything.

10 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 1

The mobile app lacks some of the functionality of the desktop site. Could be why some people don't want to switch

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

When I close my phone while running the app it loses where I'm at in the posts and then refreshes it. Annoying if I was reading something

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Or they're like me and have a phone with such small storage capacity that apps are out of the question.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As an only mobile user, what am I missing?

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I haven't used it in a really long time but there's no messaging, no browsing subreddits and notifications literally take days to show up.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I get notifications faster on the app than I do on the desktop site. They're near instant.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You can browse subreddits, just not NSFW ones.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It hours..

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Adblock Plus is now available as a mobile app.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Have to use their browser, which isn't compatible with a lot of other things (like some PW lockers). It's better than nothing but still PITA

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you have an android and are willing to root your device proper device-wide adblockers exist.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yep, but rooting (if you weren't doing it already) def still falls under 'PITA'.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

True. For me, it's built into the custom ROM I'm running (Dirty Unicorns) so it's no extra work.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Does it work with iOS app or just safari... loathe safari...

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

From my understanding it works with any iOS app or you can down their own internet browser also. Just have to fiddle with settings

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Adblock plus evidently has t been updated since February, but futuremind's "webblock" looks promising. Keep ya posted

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or if your jailbroken (you should be if your on iOS) you have a variety of add blocks to chose from.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

If only... have a two year old son and a dead desktop computer. Haven't had the cash to replace the computer or the time to learn jailbreak

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It takes about five minutes if you're on a compatible software version.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

How do these ads hijack your browser? As in, what does it do? I keep thinking I'm in an internet bubble because I never have these problems.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

They've popped open Play store entries, without me clicking on anything. This indicates that ads can include arbitrary scripts.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They craft what looks like a native iOS pop up in the page and then it redirects you to a malicious site. Don't have to click just goes

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Hm. What is it I'm doing differently, I wonder. I don't use adblocks on my phone, and imgur is whitelisted on my computer. o.o

The fact that the ads shown as posts are actually good vs the ad spots should be obvious enough how to do ads.

10 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 4

Actually, they already do. Post the offending URL on imgur forum and they permanently ban the advertiser. I've done it a few times now.

10 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

reactive filtering is too late, damage done. Employ a respectable advertiser or handle your own ads.

She mentioned in a comment long ago that using "@sarah" doesn't flag her anymore, too many people were abusing it. Just a freindly FYI.

10 years ago | Likes 741 Dislikes 7

Wow... How fucking dumb. I mean I get that she gets spammed, but that's because she doesn't give two shits what we say.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 20

Maybe you don't really get that she gets spammed.

So, lets try other names? like @imgur @PornHub or even @ANewBadlyPhotoshoppedPhotoofMichaelCeraEveryday?

10 years ago | Likes 135 Dislikes 6

... actually @pornhub could probably divert their media buy 100% to imgur and force out everything else.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

PornHub seems to have their ads done in a less intrusive fashion. .... According to a friend of mine. *smooth*

10 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Yes, because they can do something about it. Keep up the good work.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Or you know... @Alan the creator of this wretched cesspool we used to love.

10 years ago | Likes 125 Dislikes 0

I never liked this place, I just use it for the memes ^^

10 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 6

The memes they post from other websites or the shitting memes they don't even know how to use properly?

Good luck with that. Friend of mine knows him and Sarah from back in Ohio. Says Sarah is sweet but Alan's a douchebag.

Well, we could just hack in and put a message on her desktop that this shit needs to stop..... oh wait, that's illegal

10 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 2

Or you could comment on one of her comments, leaving a link to this post.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Still needs a dang email address we can have a group of imgurs send one detailed letter stating the issue so her box won't be spammed and...

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Be blocked as well like the @Sarah

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Or put it in an ad on imgur to hack her browser. Apparently that works.

10 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

I wonder if the imgur crew uses Adblock while browsing...

@weirdAl ?

Not weird enuff for me. Sorry.

Upvoting this because Imgur needs to actually deal with this situation. This IS genuinely unacceptable.

They get revenue from the ads. Stop the viewing, stop the cash flow.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I'd you get hit with a browser locker or ransomware, there is no closing and reopening your browser.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

In before downvote - places like imgur, cnn, and yahoo have been known to serve malware ads with no intention of fixing the problem.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They have a long history of partnering with shady ad services. When enough outrage is shown, they back off, but greed always brings it back.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I've had to shut down Chrome twice for the BS "warning from Microsoft" one tonight, I'll be joining you this week if it isn't fixed.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

try Ctrl + W (usually works if you hit it more than once, don't do it too rapidly though)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

@Alan

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Use Adblock/uBlock until they get their act together. Maybe if they aren't making money from adverts they will sort this shit out.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

@sarah

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

they know, they're working on it. alot of hosts are dealing w/ it right now. it sucks.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

A lot of hosts? So it's like Adsense fault or the ISPs?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

They dont have much control over what ads are displayed if they use ad services like google Adsense. Its their job to check if the

10 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 7

That's really not true. The first time, sure , it happens .But imgur is choosing to accept backfill and remnant garbage. They don't have to.

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

Advertisors site is alright which they wont. If imgur would include their own ads no one would come and their income would fall

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 7

That's their own fault for not taking the time to make sure they aren't endangering their users

10 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

Actually untrue. If Google's serviced ads are placing malicious or annoying ads, you can contact them to have them removed.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Just like the other providers. Sadly it's more of a blacklist that relies on user input. So report bad ads!

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Regardless of why it happens, it's not acceptable. If your website is malicious to its users, fuck you. You don't deserve users.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

Especially if they want people to continue to view their site without ad-blockers. I used to, but turned them back on for this site.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I completely agree. its getting bad

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This same comment was on the last outrage post about ads.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Beginning of the month? Good time for a short boycott. One week to find other fun sites and things to do, while imgur gets it act together.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

THIS is why I ALWAYS use ad block.....

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

The "problem" is that advertisers insist on serving the ads from their own servers, so that they can steal your information. But only (1/2)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

first party ads (served from imgur's own servers) can possible be safe. A "whitelist of advertisers" is not possible. (2/2)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What's there to gain in updating? 'Cuz I haven't updated mine for no ads. It's a dick move, I know, but no ads.

10 years ago | Likes 97 Dislikes 2

Talking mobile here, btw.

10 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 2

Ads on the app arent bad, all i see is a little banner at the bottom of posts for ads. If youre in most viral then you get promoted posts.

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

It's that when on mobile my finger accidentally will hit an ad while scrolling down and send me to a fucked up spam site.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ive hit a few but they have taken me to google play store. I do hate the malicious ads though.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have mobile. It flipping updates on its own. I think it has to do with how active you are on the site. Or, some other random drawing.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 9

You can turn off auto updates if you have an Android, don't know about Apple

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Cool to know. Thanks.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You can turn off auto updates on Apple

I don't understand this tbh, I've never even had an ad on imgur and I don't even use adblock

10 years ago | Likes 516 Dislikes 8

I get the same issues on mobile... In fact I find it is more dangerous on mobile.

10 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 2

I've never had any problems on imgur's iPhone app, but that isn't to say there are none. Just that I haven't experienced any.

10 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 2

Mobile is a little better but each time I accidentally click an ad while scrolling down it's "CONGRATS YOU CAN'T LEAVE THIS PAGE"

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Mobile isn't bad.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

It's worse on mobile

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It happens on my iPhone..

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Opengur on your phone works.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You could try using adblock to specifically block only imgur ads

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Omg I am so lucky. I never got around to updating mobile, and then this problem started showing up. Whew

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've never had an issue on mobile. I hope I didn't just jinx myself

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think you just did, you GoogleFucker.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's even worse on mobile, I've had it crash my phone multiple times, and even had to flash ut once due to viruses

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I know that you are concerned about more then yourself, but AdBlockers work wonders - and you can allow imgur ads if they fix it later 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

and you want to support the site again. 2/2

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I made a post about this yesterday. It literally happened 10 times in a few hours

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It happens on mobile too (android)

10 years ago | Likes 56 Dislikes 4

All. The. Time.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Worse, the browser hijacks are of the "you have a virus" sort and they activate without clicking; just navigating to a page with an ad.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yup. Happens to me multiple times a day sometimes.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I have yet to have it happen to me on android. But I never click on them either.

10 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 1

Some times it thinks I clicked the ad and opens a new window which is annoying, but it's usually just the play store.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't click on them on apple and get redirected still :(

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

No it doesn't. It only happens on that cancerous mobile site. Use the app instead. It's 100x better

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I got redirected to some scareware that tried to claim I had a virus. haven't had that happen otherwise except on pornhub

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It happened to me on iPhone, and I never even clicked anything.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also happens on apple :/

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yup. But the good news is I won an iPhone!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Mobile is no better. They do this BS where the page appears to be loaded only to shift down so an ad is where you are just about to click.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why aren't you using a good adblocker? I have uBlock Origin and experience zero ads or pop-ups.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

Wouldn't be entertainment.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

Yeah, on a desktop there is no excuse to not be using an adblocker in this day and age.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Imgur is hosted on a server. Hosting and domain names cost money. Ads generate money. So if nobody views the ads imgur will either become

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 6

But if the ads are so destructive that they cause people to leave........

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I didn't say "EVERYONE SHOULD USE AN ADBLOCKER", I questioned why this individual didn't just use an adblocker over not using imgur on pc

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's like supporting your favorite band by paying for their music instead of pirating it. If no one paid for things or viewed ads there

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 5

If they want me to view these fucking ads then they need to make sure there are no redirects, viruses, and keyloggers. Ya think? OR scams.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Non existent or be a paid subscription service.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 8

You can add exceptions for sites you want to support - install the ad blocker and allow imgur once the issue is fixed.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I downvoted one and upvoted one comment to try to get them in order. Next time just reply to your own comment or number them please. Cheers.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I can't fix it alone I guess lol

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Genuinely uncomfortable browsing on a desktop (2/2)

10 years ago | Likes 400 Dislikes 4

Crazy part is that was one of their own rules, not having any ads that do that

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You can try adblock

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Get a no script plugin for your browser. It makes it so you have to ok what that website can show. It's a life saver

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

adblock for me

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

If you do mobile, you will accidentally click ads and you will get the "your phone has detected a virus" spam. It's no better.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Always go mobile, I dont even bother with the desktop. Way too many sketch ads

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

"ublock origin" is the first thing i put on someone's pc to make sure they dont get infected with all that crap

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Agreed but it's element hiding is clunky. If on firefox, add adblock (turned off all subs and filters) to use element hiding helper addon

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What about adblock? Yes it takes money away from them but that's what they get for allowing things to be so bad.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

So why u dont use somthing to remove the ads?

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Use adblock. When imgur notices they're making less because we're blocking all of their ads, they'll get on fixing it right quick.

10 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

Imgur is the reason I got adblock a long time back when they used to have ads that cycled into ones that made noise. Fuck that shit.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

They could also turn into one of those websites that don't let you browse unless you turn off adblock :(

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

You can bypass those restrictions as well... just takes some effort.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If that happens I'll just treat imgur the way I treat those sites: I won't come back.

10 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

I joined here cause i got bored somewhere else, i'll find something else again if i have to

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

true... but i don't think imgur will do that yet lest they want a angry fanbase

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Mobile is good, you don't get redirected unless you click on the ad. Barely even notice the ads tbh

10 years ago | Likes 145 Dislikes 5

This is Truth.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

@OP @awesummzz if you have large thumbs like me, it closes down your phone browser

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But when you scroll and accidentally push on the ad it takes you right there. Happens to me regularly

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That sounds more like a you problem than an Imgur problem

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I use the app, just pressing on the screen opena the add sometimes for me. Lot of times it redirects from chrome to playstore and back.

10 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 2

I've never had that happen. Maybe contact Imgur in case it's an issue with your version of the app

10 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Never had this issue on android app. Hardly notice ads

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

'Lots of times"? That's not normal. I'd report it or something. I've never accidentally opened an ad. It opening like that for you is weird

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0
