As a Dutch person i felt obligated to teach everyone a bit more about our famous Dutch Oven. Since everyone is saying they should give their spouse a Dutch Oven i can only concur that you should! Dutch Ovens are great!!

Generally a cast iron pot is used and put over a campfire or on a grill. You out some hot timber on the lid to make heat it up more evenly. Or you can just hang it on a tripod. If you wanna use a conventional oven you can also use aluminum or ceramic pots.

Look at that!! This is what you treat someone too!

Pastries in a Dutch oven? No problem!!

Chicken? No problem!

Perfect cuisine!!

As you can see a Dutch Oven isn't that hard to work with. So go treat your spouse on an authentic Dutch Oven! They deserve it!

always better over a campfire

My wife appreciates it when I use the Dutch Oven to its fullest potential. The aroma has even woken her up!

You're a great husband! I don't understand why people show so much hate towards Dutch Ovens. It comes in so many flavors and cuisines!

What about German ovens?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

When cooking with a Dutch Oven with your SO, do you recommend beans?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Definitely! I make a lot of bean dishes myself! You can add some chili for extra aroma and flavor.

How do you get your wife's head in there without the farts escaping?

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Well when you're cooking a Dutch Oven you obviously put the lid on first to make sure everything is inside. Then you heat it up!

Dutch sous vide.

Sous vide is the way to go!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm Dutch. Never heard of this though...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Here we mostly use the ceramic ones or the enameled pots known as braadpannen. Great for making roasts or stews!

I was hoping to see the bedroom dutch oven at the end of this.

9 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 0

I do not recommend setting up a campfire in the bedroom. Unless you live in a mansion and have a fireplace there.

9 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 2

Just a silly name for a cast iron pot. TIL absolutely nothing of interest.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I’d call the three-legged ones camp ovens. You can flip them over and set the lid on the legs as a griddle. And they’re good for pizza.

The smell that comes from the Dutch oven is the best part.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have a Dutch oven. It will be willed to my daughter.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's great!! I'm using the one my grandfather passed on to me.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As a Canadian with a Dutch mother and Dutch family, yes yeS YES. THE FOOD IS SO GOOOOOOOOOOD.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I once gave my wife a Dutch oven and she actually threw up. It was one of my proudest moments.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

In South Africa we use these. Hard to beat a Potjiekos. The food that comes out of these things is brilliant

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Takes an hour and a half to clean though. And you gotta do it every time, minimum of half an hour after cooking. You just gotta

Poike is mana from heaven

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm Dutch. I know what a 'Dutch Oven' is, but i've never seen anyone use such a cooking pot in the Netherlands in whole my life.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I guess you have seen a braadpan. That's it, but unlike most of the other things you have, that one has developed through time.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's an old cooking technique. These days we just use ceramic or aluminum pots in a normal over for stews. Still used outdoors tho.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I got one for Christmas. I love it.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So do they smell like farts?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I guess that depends on what you've been eating...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm dutch. Never ever have seen one of these... Must be a 17th century thing.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

It's indeed an old cooking technique. These days we just use ceramic or aluminum pots in a normal over for stews. Still used outdoors tho.

My boy scout experiences taught me that everything tasted better out of a dutch oven. Such good food was had.

9 years ago | Likes 83 Dislikes 0

Amen. We use to make pizza that was fantastic

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Agree. Dutch oven pizza was a classic in my troop.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So isn't it just a crock pot?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I once made rabbit this way for Christmas. Was the best Christmas meal i ever ate! Used a conventional oven though, not a campfire.

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

My Polish great grandmother made a delicious fried rabbit in a cast iron skillet! Memories!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ah Cast Iron ... great food and a workout while you cook

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Cobbler, peach cobbler, blueberry cobbler. Soo delicious.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

make sure you clean that shit out after or you're going to be sad. Source d.o. left in car all summer

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There is more than one definition of a "Dutch oven".

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's where you pull the blankets over your partners head then fart.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

That doesn't seem like an efficient way to cook. Now i'm always interested in new techniques, so if you got any recipes maybe?

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

First, make you some chili in that fancy cookpot of yours...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Everyone knows a Dutch oven is when you're in bed with someone and you fart then pull the covers over their head and trap them in there

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a Dutch person : I don't think that this kind of Dutch oven is a thing in Holland

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a Dutch person i can tell you we know them as braadpannen en they are great for roasts and stews! Either on the stove or in the oven.

No advanced chemistry needed! Just torch everything up with the lid closed!

"Pass the dutchie 'pon the left hand side..."

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wut, Dutch ovens are actually Dutch? Most of the stuff with proper names aren't really from the place. Canadian bacon? Nope, just ham.

9 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 1

Or the terrible lie that it is right and fitting to die for ones country and "french fries".

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They are not. Wikipedia tells you the full story.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Allow me to provide the link https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_oven

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

A marketing trick, based on them having been better quality in the 18th century. ;)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm not saying you're wrong! I merely provided the link. My post was meant both humorous and culinary, allot of people understood the joke.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yup they are! We used to have allot of marshland before we changed it into cultivated land. Dutch ovens were widely used!

9 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 3

Why am i being downvoted? I'm not bullshitting here... check the provided wiki link in the other comment.

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

The wiki article says they aren't used in the Netherlands, at least not what you picture in your post.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You are correct! We use (hope i translated this correct) enameled pots here, and generally people do it on a stove or in a conventional oven

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

As a Dutch person; I have never heard of nor seen this kind of Dutch oven...

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They aren't used much anymore these days. Generally people now use ceramic or aluminum pots in a conventional oven. This is more outdoorsy.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wikipedia tells us they are called braadpan now.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ah, the braadpan, got me one of those

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Of course you do! Every Dutch person should have one! I even own two of these braadpannen!!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I don't think I know anyone who hasn't got one. I guess my next goal in life would be a second braadpan.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Literal Dutch Ovens are good ways to cook food while "Dutch ovens" are good ways to cook your SO.

9 years ago | Likes 347 Dislikes 0

I was! Worth it! Very informative video on how to cook with one of these.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Can you roast your SO too?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm not sure if is legal to cook your SO. Though they say human meat tastes sweet.. Still, i don't think it's a nice thing to do to your SO!

9 years ago | Likes 93 Dislikes 4

Oh I think your thinking of a Deutsch oven.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

According to cannibals, Human flesh taste like veal with the texture of pork.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I could imagine that. Not sure if i'd find that tasty though...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He meant farting under the covers and pulling them over your SOs head

9 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 17

I always heard that as a covered wagon
