Can you blame people? Most shelters make it extremely difficult, if not impossible to get an animal from them.

They demand some proof that you are able to keep an animal. I wish stores would do that too. For pets smaller than cats, it's more easy.

Every dog I've owned has been a rescue. I was 7 before I found out that people sell dogs.

Petco has shelter cats in the store. But ferrets and small animals? Shelters don't usually have those.

A lot of shelters do. In Germany, there is often a flood of little critters like fancy rats that are taken from a horder.
