Reminds me of Aki Ross, from "Final Fantasy: the Spirits Within." She was supposed to be the first virtual actress, where the studio owned the rights to her and could put her into any film or show they wanted, and just hire a voice actor willing to do the work. And... the movie bombed and the idea was shelved. For a little while.

"Hollywood" had been churning out crap on TV and Movies recently - probably why I spend more of my free time playing video games or painting miniatures. The last movie I saw was Maverick - and don't think there's been anything since then I've had any interest in but I have heard the new Mission Impossible movie is good so might take he wife to see it.

Finally watched morbius last night - just in time to comment on this post - and holy shit people are fucking meme-ing. And it’s so sad for the people who worked hard on the project. It was definitely middle of the road super hero shit. But gdam it wasn’t that bad. In fact some things were outright decent. Was it good? I mean, obviously not, it’s a Sony super hero picture. Was it better than most the X-men, carnage, suicide squad, justice league? ell yes. And they didn’t get have the grief

Yeah, I appreciated what the movie had going for it. A lot of really talented people came together and obviously worked really hard to make the best of an uninteresting character and a lackluster screenplay. I don't think I'll ever watch it a second time, but I'm certainly not going to shit on the effort or the result, even if it failed to live up to today's high standards for comic adaptations. Life is more pleasant when you don't demand perfection, especially in matters of entertainment.

There are two Hollywood big-budget movies in my life that were so bad I walked out the theater. One is Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, and the other is Jury Duty. My head canon is that the industry will change and producers/investors/studios will get what's coming, but I guess we'll just have to wait for the next part to come out.

I think the actors and writers are asking for fair things, but this strike isn't going to end the way they think. Notice how nobody is complaining about the shows going missing? Its because there is already a glut of content and people are shifting towards YouTube/TikTok for entertainment. These strikes are just going to accelerate the death of the media complex. It will fuck actors and studios alike.

Nah, the movies and shows being released now were filmed months to a year ago, we haven't seen any reduction yet, and may not till next year. Don't think it'll do anything to the media complex, there are plenty of people who don't YouTube or tiktok at all

There was a 20% reduction in hours of TV (all forms) watched between 2022 and 2023 so far. This is continuing a 3 year trend. That is a HUGE reduction. And was even greater for people under 40. Of course, there are plenty of people that don't get their media entertainment online, but they are the graying cohort. There has been a 20 year downward trend of total movie tickets sold. The era of traditional media isn't over, but its on that path.

I was on a four hour flight from New York to Irvine a few months ago and I had the chance to watch Morbius for free while on the plane. I turned it off 45 minutes in and just sat on the plane because that was a better time. Not joking.

I watched the first 20 minutes of the new Avatar movie and got bored. It was so obvious. Good guy living the dream, bad guy gets reincarnated comes back. Plot, dialog written by freshman college kids. I turned it off to reread an old book. Yawn.

The problem is that the first time I watched it, I knew I had seen it already. It's like they lifted each part of the movie from another superhero movie and then did a middling-to-fair job of implementing it. I don't mean just plot, but like, timing, character motivations and personality, everything. Just more tepid than whatever the original source was.

It wasn’t the worst but there were some scenes in it that really shouldn’t have made it into the Final Cut. The scene when the cops arrest him and are interrogating him and he loses his temper. I mean cmon these idiots admitted that they know what venom is and they know he killed a cruise ship full of mercenaries with his bare hands and you’re just gonna sit there and believe a pair of handcuffs are gonna save you? That’s the scene that took the movie from meh to Bollywood for me.

Truth. I got into a discussion about bollywood with someone. The US movie industry has an addiction to darker and edgier because they think it's more "realistic" and "gripping", and a lot of time they've lost track of the purpose of Entertaining the viewer. Bollywood never forgets they're making entertainment. It may be ridiculous and over-the-top, and often mood whiplash, (Dil Se is a romantic musical about protest terrorism), but it never fails to be a spectacle

I wouldn't say it's "not watchable" but I wouldn't say it's not terrible either. It's pretty terrible. I still watched the whole thing. I wouldn't really recommend doing that. It's not even bad in a fun way, mostly.

I don't know what "meneing" is supposed to mean but uhh yeah it's definitely one of the worst of the "modern" superhero movies and I stand by it being about as bad as that first Suicide Squad. Probably a little worse than WW84 which was also pretty disappointing after the first one being decent.
