Which is always funny to me (as a 100% honky) because mixed-race people are generally considered more attractive than "pure" folks. I've heard it described like how mutts make the best dogs, although I'm not entirely comfortable with that analogy in this context.

From my understanding, it is a problem for everyone of a mixed race. I dated a woman who was half black and half white. She never felt or was treated the same by either group.

Yep, it is! I personally define hapa as anyone who is half white and it's always been a thing, I can't imagine being half black in the states and having that feeling even though I've always felt excluded where I'm from or commented on for having double eyelids

It feels weird b/c the experience can even be different for siblings (b/c genes are fun). ex: I have 2 nephews whose mom is (mostly) Euro/White and whose dad is Black Puerto Rican (which it turns out = actually v mixed as well). One nephew has darker skin, darker brown eyes, tighter curls - almost everyone reads him as "just black". The other has blue-green eyes, lighter skin, and loose curls. Poor kid ends up being a "racial barometer" for a place.

We adopted my sister from Korea when she was 4 months old and we are as white as it gets. Even as a full-blooded Korean, she didn't fit into either group in high school since she was essentially raised white. People are stupid, there is so much more to unify us than break us apart.

One of the most racist conversations I have heard was traveling with that ex, her friend (who was puerto rican), and friends' boyfriend (Middle Eastern decent). They kept hating on Mexicans. After a bit, I pointed out that I figured they should know better.
