Good kitty.

Grade A mouser right there.

This looks like Nebula's dream job. ...She always just swallows whole mice without playing. And steals other mice from cats. And one time had a tug of war match with our much bigger dog over a mouse. Won.

Pixel, our dog, with Quasar.

This one honors the ancient pact.

You think she carries the bodies of fallen comrades to intimidate those who still dare to encroach on her turf?

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Probably as kittens to feed.

Good cat

Just like a dog trying to get all the tennis balls

I think that might be what they call a target rich environment.

Mouse burgers!

I recall seeing a Garfield cartoon where he asked Jon to unwrap a slice of cheese. I don't know why I need to mention it, but it just seems to make a nice contrast.

”Mouse for pillow?”

"biscuits for pillow?"

I didn’t know cats could hold several rodents in their mouths at a time. Probably momma cat bring home the “bacon” for her kittens.

I enjoy coming across moments like these: Proof that some things really never do change. No matter how much time passes, cats can still be found doing their thing in conjunction with humanity. ...Which means speculative fiction needs to start finding ways to justify ship cats in space-faring civilizations.

You're looking for the Shipscat short stories by Mercedes Lackey. There's also several more like them in the Catfantastic anthologies.

Not so bad.

I demand to speak to the manager, my family and I are never coming to this buffet again... mostly because they're now in the cat's mouth

The original Mouseketeer!

Whatever she's hunting isn't going to make it, and shall be added to the collection.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The first three are for food. After that, it’s just the joy of the kill 😂

Meanwhile, MY cat:

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Just kidding. My cat isn't fat, but he *is* eighteen, so he can be excused, but he was never much of a hunter even in his youth. Meanwhile, the rats who have taken up residence on my back porch are driving me nuts. I tried setting out humane no-kill traps and they use them as obstacles in a fitness course while eating his cat litter (it's made of wheat), even saturated with pee. I set out poison, and they sprinkle it on the litter as a seasoning. I've set traps and they've run off with them.

Barn cats aren't quite the same as fully domesticated suburban housecats who kill birds for funsies.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

If it were birds, yeah.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Where’s that that was groaning to be let out while it’s human whacked at a rat..

I wonder what the instinct is to carry so many at a time without eating? waiting for them to die?? or maybe KEEPING them from dying so more fresh for litter later???

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

It's a mix of a lot of things. The area where you eat may not be 'safe' so grab what you can and take it to your hideout - they could be saving them for babies too.

3 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I'm guessing it's the same instinct that causes us to hold way too many grocery bags before accepting we need to make more than one trip

3 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

might have a chance at the record

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Finish what you've got in your mouth!

That's what she said?

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

She's picking up happy meals for the kittens.

Thinking same thing

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Imagine being a mouse, and seeing that cat come after you with a mouth full of your dead and impaled friends, lol poor fucker would just have a heart attack and keel over.

3 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Not gonna eat, gonna deliver. Just like people like to carry all their groceries at once from the car. Cat doesn't want to waste time on trips back and forth from pile. That could have been time spent hunting.

3 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

Almost. The time it takes to hunt enough is the time it takes to hunt enough. The free time they save is time for lounging and playing.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

One of the animals that helped civilization. Dogs, horses, oxen, goats. Cats kept stored grain rodent free ( or at least over whelmed). I wonder about aliens n did they have partner animals?

3 years ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 0

Unintended consequence - grain-eating rodents declined, and pet-predators multiplied. Result: decimation of songbirds.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

An other filter in the Fermin Paradox?

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I am wondering what features of their environement they are use we wouldn't even think about. While we have animals from which many are vertebrates, and have 5 types of vertebrates with one being mammals which we belong to, other planets might have evolved completely different.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Or not, but we will see when our successors meet them. At least when we somehow don't all die during the climate change phase.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

When creating aliens for gaming, I always try to imagine what long term pets they might have. Usually modeling it on things such as diet, predators, or other dangers of their evolutionary history.

3 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

I always think about gravity and how that would affect life

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's brilliant!

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've never thought of that!!

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

2 predators in symbiosis with us. We may have other pets, but those two are a major major deal. (ferrets are a minor) Other pets are mostly food items.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dogs are great because they excel where we lag, olfaction, speed, and alertness. Cats really only became important after agriculture. Horses were eventually great for transportation, but probably domesticated initially/partly for food.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It is probably as a very general rule easier to start domesticating predators with easier to get food. Skittish prey may only be enticed with safety unless they have very specific diets, I suppose.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

whatever she's being paid, it's not enough.

They kill for fun, no remuneration required.

Mice

She's being payed the mouses she catches, and pets ofcourse

3 years ago | Likes 86 Dislikes 0

She's being paid in exposure.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And it's not enough. More Pets! More scritches

3 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

But no more than three. Or it gets the claw again!

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This exactly why cats earned special “friend of the human species” status. The don’t eat the corn, the wheat, the rice, the fruits or the vegetables. If they did, they’d be considered vermin. Instead, they eat the vermin.

3 years ago | Likes 266 Dislikes 0

I remember seeing a study years ago that stated an adult male cat given unlimited access to mice will on average kill 15 before becoming bored.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

So what you’re saying is more cats

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I imagine if it's just a ton of mice in a box with a cat with no hidey holes, then yeah, there's no hunt.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yeah if you cover it in salty butter they’ll eat it. But when was the last time you saw a cat attack a cornfield?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

he monch

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They also don’t eat the rocks that a small number of humans may have briefly thought were tortoises.

3 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 1

What? My friend doesn’t understand, could you enlighten them?

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I wonder who thought that...

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I read something that it's a misconception Egyptians worshipped cats, back then people were paid frequently with grain and mice are grain. Cats killing nice basically were protectors of food and money and treated with such esteem. Not sure how true but I thought it was fun

3 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 1

Cats were killing nice in a good way :)

I got a new phone and the auto correct is unbearable, it corrects into I'm, live into love and a bunch of other words my old phone corrected differently it's been pretty frustrating since the only other option is type slow and or turn it off and that's worse. New phone has a smaller keyboard and I think that's mostly the problem.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I feel ya brother. Of all the cursed technologies in just the last few decades, predictive text/autocorrect wins the award for most cursed. I swear some days it fucks with me extra hard because it knows I'm in a bad mood. I corrected seven errors errors in this post alone.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It wasn't bad on my previous phone an S10, I think I'm going to move to a pixel fold once they come out with a 2md one and the current one drops a lot in price.
