This is a cryptex with a gift inside that I'll give her tomorrow.

Here it is with the clue wrapped around it. The clue is:

Clue 1 of 2.

Clue 2 of 2. "take a look; it's in a book..."

This should lead her to a book (Canterbury Tales by Chauser, I think?).

The book is hollowed out for a blacklight that leads to a message behind a kid-drawn picture of a monster truck on the fridge. It says something about looking for where the "boom-sticks" are (our gun safe). There she should find a puzzle box. [she's REALLY good at puzzles]

Secret decoder ring.

She'll find this puzzle box. In it she'll find a secret decoder ring and a note with numbers.

Secret decoder ring she'll find, and need.

The decrypted/decyphered/solved/un-encrypted message is "apple". When she finds this out, she'll get this:

This is the present hidden inside the cryptex.

FP Edit:
1) Okay, I know "APPLE" is pretty obvious, but that's what it came coded as. It's alterable, but was really difficult. I passed on trying for fear of breaking it.

2) If y'all like this kind of stuff, I did an escape room for my kiddo's 10th birthday party that you might also like: https://imgur.com/a/qDbji

3) Oh, and I should link to the lady who made the pendant. I found it at etsy here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/DriftwoodSpirits

Maybe girls or other men like this, but i would be horrified if i would be forced to solve this... I would much rather just cuddle all day

Should have made it "drink more ovaltine"

You destroyed a book by Chaucer...?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

this marriage exhausts me and i'm not even in it

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

You cut up a copy of the Canterbury Tales for this? Philistine!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My girlfriend tried something like this on my birthday. I told her I don't have time for that shit. She dumped me two months later. Regrets.

tbh the cryptex is beautiful

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

'cant we just have sex'

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

That looks like water from a glacier in Alaska that was blessed by an eskimo medicine man

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I did something similar for my can't-wait-til-the-divorce-is-final ex. Gave her a box of gemstones. Wish I could get those back.

#2 that's one hell of a joint

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

READING RAINBOW WAS MY SHIT!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is melts my cold heart, but there's a part of me that is aghast in victorian shock at the gutted book. Ofc im a hypocrite. Nv read it.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Some of the tales are really quite funny. Those medieval people had a dirty mind ;)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Where does one buy a cryptic container?

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Amazon

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh no, not with a copper wire piece of jewellery on a cord...

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

I feel like I read this kind of plot before and it didn’t end well…

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You used the Canterbury Tales in your escape room as well. I take it, it's a bitch to carve pages out of a book like that?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, but if I did it again, I think power tools would make it much faster.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

“Thank you. It’s beautiful” (Wears cryptex round neck)

9 years ago | Likes 247 Dislikes 0

i mean hell, did you see that thing? i would.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

PM me your physical address. I have a puzzle that I'll send you.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

if you like puzzles, here have this one, i call it Adulthood, now try and figure it out

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA oh I've got that puzzle. Definitely can't figure it out though

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"I know you would post this on imgur John, now I already know the answer" wife, probably

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

How to make all other boyfriends look bad in 5 easy steps should be your title.

9 years ago | Likes 1012 Dislikes 7

Shouldn't. Cause they're married.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I hope she's not disappointed that the end result isn't a proposal...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

idk... maybe if your girlfriend is into dungeons and dragons and middle earth jewelry, then yea he’s a total boss.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

he made puzzlebox, more like 4 easy steps and 1 really hard one

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Also username confirms we didn't have a chance.

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

What a catch..

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What a chef!

Husbands*

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I agree... no one is as cool as this guy. Kudos to you my friend!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Touché like they say in france

9 years ago | Likes 56 Dislikes 1

I've never heard anyone say that IRL. Thx for an another cliché Obama.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I say touché all the time

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Would he be considered a touchébag?

9 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

This made my day... I'm a french teacher, i find language funny sometimes

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Touch as they say is Hollywood

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

The word answer "apple" is even the same as in the da vinci code. I admire your creativity but a little original answers might help

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's really hard to change. Apple is what it came with.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Is your wife Ron Swanson?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Hope not, cuz then she'll just smash it open with a hammer.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I showed my wife. She said “no. Not even close to worth it” I hope yours likes it better than mine did!!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Or she'll put apple in right away as that's what it was in the Da Vinci code...

9 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 2

it's not the answer for his cryptex though.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 9

Yes it is, OP explicitly states that.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Ah, I missed that. my bad. The message to decode didn't look like it could become "apple".

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Agreed, needs a different code word.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I guessed the answer was "apple" just from the thumbnail. Maybe don't copy a puzzle from an extremely popular book/movie so closely.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Right? That was my first thought.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Great idea. Love the commitment to the theme, like an escape room only it leads to a lifetime of monogomy instead. Yay....

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Funny you mention escape rooms. I just put this together for my son's 10th birthday: /a/qDbji

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Impressive

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's awesome!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or, she'll just check your imgur posts

9 years ago | Likes 1300 Dislikes 3

QUICK!! EVERYONE DOWNVOTE!!

9 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 2

@OP better delete this.

9 years ago | Likes 186 Dislikes 1

B-but fake internet points...

9 years ago | Likes 101 Dislikes 2

Dont you still get them after deleting it

9 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 0

Yeah but you miss out on all the ones you would've gotten if you hadn't deleted it

9 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 0

Or downvotes, if we find out that this isn't OPs OC

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Remember to throw the code cylinder and yell “grenade”

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Goddammit. This made front page. She's gonna see this!

9 years ago | Likes 321 Dislikes 2

If she hasn't seen this, you can include the link of this post in the box. Wish you both an eternity of partnership and love.

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

AFAIK, you can still edit your posts after they've been submitted. Would mess imgur up but be worth it. You can also unshare/retract posts

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

(other msg first) might be worth it*

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

ABORT ABORT

9 years ago | Likes 115 Dislikes 0

Sounds like my parents

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Too late. He already said the kid is at least 10.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

whatever you do... DO NOT "FrontpageEdit" AND ASK FOR NUDES!!!

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

What if she tells him too though?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I would say marry her immediately, but they're married already.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So can someone tell me how these riddles lead to Canterbury tales? I don't see the connection, unless that s the only book in the house?

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

If its like those escape room games we just ransack the bookshelf until we find one with the clue

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Lol, yeah. Seems like some details are left out here.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah, imgur left out some of the images and editing it doesn't work for some reason.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is no one going to protest the cutting up of the Canterbury Tales?? That book cost me $150 used af in college!

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

That copy looks pretty heavily water damaged already, so I'm okay with it.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Was it a first edition?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Are you sure that was the Canterbury Tales you bought for £150? Seems expensive

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Damn op marry me : no homo though

9 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 2

I've got some news for you

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'd marry just because foxhound is in your username.

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You'd marry him anyway, we know @OP

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

#VinegarOnTheCryptex

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Apple was the code for the cryptex in the book too.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, when does the albino monk come into the puzzle?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Should make the tasks harder, like literally harder, to piss wifey off, so you'll know if she'll actually go "through thicc or thin".

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The absolute first thing I thought when I saw the first picture was "TRY APPLE!"

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

D R I N K M O R E O V A L T I N E

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Son of a bitch!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What's it say? I can't crqck the code!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Including that cryptex which came with the movie!

9 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 0

And the answer

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Apple

9 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

First thing I would try on any cryptex, followed closely by sofia.
