In bladerunner, one of the shots of the city has the Millennium Falcon as a building.

Is anyone gonna mention: ATTACK OF THE CYBER OCTOPUSES?
emguhraeb
Soooooo.... kinda sorta like the matrix?
CyberOctopuses
Not really... check the link at the bottom!
CyberOctopuses
Ahaha have you checked the KS page? There's also a super cool teaser :D
rdkah123
This was on the front page a while back, dude said he was doing it for a low budget sci fi movie, I believe
CyberOctopuses
Actually this is a new piece, new picture. New methods. But similar to the previous one. anyway, yes it's for a film: http://kck.st/2l0lAqp
rdkah123
My bad then; the listerine bottle etc. seemed really familiar
CyberOctopuses
Yeah they are similar... but on the old one I used also 3D printed parts. This is entirely made with "junk".
NovaleeMarie
turned out awesome. I actually wanted to do something like this myself. Mind if I ask what equipment you used?
CyberOctopuses
On the facebook page of the project you can see the video tutorial (in two parts): https://www.facebook.com/cyberoctopuses/
Valorien
No fog machine cause I'm broke, so instead i smoked a whole 1/4 BAG of weed & now i can't recall why i'm doing this in the first place...
tangopianista
This is awesome. Project time!
CyberOctopuses
Thank you!
ACADEMIAexe
This is super cool, would like to see some real 80's miniature cities now... I actually didn't know this was a thing...
TheCrazyVulcan
Check out some of the old Toho Godzilla films between 1951 and about 1998, they moved to 90% CGI. Good work for a guy in a costume to smash
ACADEMIAexe
Yeah! The older Godzilla movies is the only I could think of as well! I was curious what other movies used this...
TheCrazyVulcan
The original is one of the best, Metropolises from 1938ish. The used a miniature city and tiny mirrors to put people in it.
ACADEMIAexe
Wow that's crazy. I've always wanted to watch it but never got around to it. I should see it...

I recommend using old computer motherboards or the cardboard packaging from electronics products.
Strostkovy
Just zoom in on circuit boards and do the effects shown here.
CyberOctopuses
There are many electronic components glued on those bottles. I took parts from an old radio. :)

I used to think that circuit boards were just tiny cities as a small kid.

Google an old CGI-cartoon from the 90's called 'reboot'. You're welcome.

Upvote for a 80s lover. I miss it so much. Keep producing ugly/beautiful 80s art, op. Thanks. Keep the flame

Bluepeter bladerunner
samsonguy920
Douglas Trumbull would be proud of these guys.
IsACouchASeat
Well...the models from Bladerunner were beyond amazing. But this looks frickin cool
CyberOctopuses
Ahaha exactly, kind of! Blade Runner is my main source of inspiration.
ArtemisFolly
wasn't blade runner the last major scifi film with no digital effects? think I heard that somewhere...
Alphax45
Possibly. Terminator 2 had a surprisingly small amount, mostly the T-1000. The rest was practical. That's why it still holds up today :)
Qumefox
The motor starting capacitor is a nice touch.
TiredOfMyUsernameBeingMyActualNameSoIChangedIt
It's really really cool OP, like seriously well done
CyberOctopuses
Thanks :) Did you watch also the teaser on the KS page?
TiredOfMyUsernameBeingMyActualNameSoIChangedIt
Yeah, you might be getting another backer soon
CyberOctopuses
Thanks! Very very appreciated! :)

If that's the case then you'll be a fine filmmaker. Approved.

One day we will be them.

But where are the lights in the windows? Where are the glowing neon signs? Its a good start I will admit.
CyberOctopuses
This is just part of a larger "miniature" city that we'll use for wider shots. For closeups we use bigger buildings with lights, signs, etc
Overclockworked
This is....
CyberOctopuses
Check the KS page to see more ;)
Overclockworked
+.5 for using octopuses instead of octopi. Another +.5 for working in the cyberpunk genre, which I love. Good stuff.
CyberOctopuses
Thank you!!! :) Please consider a little support and share ;)
CyberOctopuses
Having lights on such small city it's very complicated. We do have lights on larger buildings (see the teaser for example on the KS page)
ShaneEngland
You could use something reflective for the windows though
CyberOctopuses
I thought about it, but it doesn't work so well, looks "amateur", so I prefer to have a "dark city" than one with lights but "cheap".
ShaneEngland
ah what did you use?
