Most space ships seem fashioned after fish. Aerodynamic. Which of course makes no sense, for ships which never enter an atmosphere.

I helps smaller ships with departure and re-entry but large ships should be built strong to accommodate for strong forces in many directions

Which is why I favour the Nostromo refinery, Red Dwarf and Borg Cube styles of spaceships. No air? It can be a huge blob of whatever!

I'd be more worried about what would happen if a borg cube tried entering the atmosphere.

Well, it never really needs to, with orbital weapons and teleporters. But...if it did, it'd handle it ok, actually.
