The 8 seconds of silence made me think something awful was coming.

Saw him years ago in the Queen’s Hall in Edinburgh. Total showman. Check out Black Codes from the Underground. Decades on, still his best record imho. Swings like a motherfucker.

Wow, skills!

Goosebumps. I haven't thought about watching that show's intro with my dad in... Over three decades.

Brings me back to 1978 in Mardi Gras in New OIrleans. Lived 2 miles from "Jackson Square", woke up every morning to a trumpet sound I have never heard repeated since. The cleanest sound bouncing off the squares buildings and bellowing out to the "burb"s". Never have had a wake-up call like that ever again

It's amazing he does this live every Sunday morning and I never hear a mistake. True professional.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wynton Marsalis is a freaking world treasure.

that dude blows

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is my first time seeing a 4 valve trumpet. Not surprised just fact

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Huh, so it is. And he only uses it for a single note

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm pretty sure it's a piccolo trumpet. But it's a different layout than I've normally seen.

Me too, having played trombone in middle and high school, I’m guessing that performs the same as the thumb trigger in dropping it an octave

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think he practiced that.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Would you believe that's the first time he's ever picked up a trumpet? Me neither. I asked if you'd believe it, not that it's true.

Calling all old people. I'm not sure where I fall because I DVR it.

2 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

Don’t forget about 60 minutes!

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My bf LOVES Sunday Morning, and I joke that it’s an old people show. He gets cranky and says it’s not, but then the stories are on like Dick Van Dyke, how to make secure passwords, and the shingles vaccine. We also DVR it. 😂

Mid 30s millennial year so I am old to some, young to others. Wife and I DVR Sunday morning, Face the Nation, SNL, and CBS Mornings during the week. We use a Tablo DVR with an antenna.

I do too. Best show ever. Always.

You may say I don't know Purcell's Trumpet Voluntary when I hear it, and you'd be right, what was that piece?

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Hah, unintentional joke, nobody knows Purcell's Trumpet Voluntary when they hear it.. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince_of_Denmark%27s_March

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Absolutely!!!! My HERO!!!❤️

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It is

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

According to youtube yes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wVc23gnIlk source video isn't vertically cropped either.

2 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

Of note, it looks like he's using a mouthpiece that helps him reach those high notes. Also, I've met him and attended classes of his brother's, both were extremely educational

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No. That’s Wynton Marsalis.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

No it’s Becky

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No, you're thinking of the trumpet player, Marsellus Wallace.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Well he got me a little hot and bothered following up that performance with that look at the end 🥵

2 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

As he is wont to do

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That look says, "1 take bitches"

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

That’s the look of someone who is the absolute best in the world at something. Baryshnikov wore the same expression in White Knights after doing 11 pirouettes with perfect balance. Well earned.

Spectacular player. Have a listen to In Gabriel's Garden for some of the best classical trumpet. His rendition of The Trumpet Voluntary and The King Of Denmark's March are magnificent

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

“Classic Wynton” album fucking slaps. Listen to it

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hell yes it is

Monster Microphones.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Are those special or specifically recognizable for some reason?

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

AKG C12. New for about 7500. Vintage for around 20, 000. Good for just about any instrument and like butter on vocals.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Only one I knew of belonged to a total asshat. He bragged about it all the time.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1
