YouTube is one place I don’t mind ad’s. There are some content creators I really enjoy and if watching an ad puts a few pennies in their pocket I’m okay with that.

Almost every creator I watch has alt sources like Patreon or personal advertising deals, i.e. they'll personally read aloud an advertisement from a brand like ExpressVPN, Hello Fresh, etc., etc. Between YT's automated copyright system (where anyone can claim anything, leading to ad vultures claiming shit they don't own) and their insane rules for demonetization (i.e. why cursing has been cut out of a TON of videos), there's a decent chance they're not seeing much ad revenue in the first place.

Almost every creator I watch has alt sources of revenue because YT won't pay them. YT demonetize creators for arbitrary and constantly changing reasons, have a automated copyright system that leads to ad vultures claiming material they do not own (a creator I watch had their Paper Mario LP "claimed" because some indie band with <10K subs said they own one of Nintendo's songs, and YT never verifies), and cut advertising deals with hate groups like PragerU, among other shit like crypto scams.

You know what's REALLY fun? When a college professor has a YouTube video as part of their lecture, but university IT doesn't allow ANY browser extensions for "security reasons," so we all end up sitting around like chumps waiting for the underwear ads to finish before we can resume class.

Pihole doesn't block youtube ads unfortunately. Only options is to use other apps like smartTube, don't know on Xbox though.

Since youtube started screwing creators, even that half a cent of ad revenue stopped coming to them. Youtube can put 2 ads in front they get $0 from, and they can "suspend" revenue (But not the ads) of mid roll ads without reason or warning. On top of being allowed to remove or block or demonetize any video with an internal sponsor. Apparently if you are small-medium size creator, good luck.

I watch maybe a video or two a day. I tend to have classic fm for background noise, and you can't skip ads on the radio. Why are people so het up that a company hosting billions of hours of videos for free show a couple of short adverts?

Honestly, most people. Since their whole adblock fiasco hit the news cycles though, probably a lot more. A lot of users are very casual and did not even know adblocking was a thing. But now thanks to their dumb knee-jerk reaction and the various news agencies running stories on it, many casual users have been introduced to the idea of never seeing ads ever again.

I recently started using newpipe on my phone for everything youtube related. But the browser version with the adblock is probably the better alternative. (Not the newpipe from the playstore. Go to their vwebsite if anyones interested. Playstore is riddled with fake datagathering shit)
