Tbh, that was a bad approach for corner apex + entry speed. His rear brakes locked and he countered the slide to stay upright. Poor Sanka.

Should have been on the drops and slid his ass off the back of the seat. Could have grabbed way more brake without locking up.
Surprise hint! If you do get a rear wheel slide like that, try to rapidly uncleat your right foot and plant it if, it’s unsafe to counter.
Or if it looks really bad - double clip out, push off saddle and ghostride that POS into the guardrail...

I think he stayed wide because it’s a blind corner: so possible oncoming traffic. He just braked wayyyy too late regardless...

If it's open to traffic and not a roped off race track, then you have to be able to come to a complete stop in half the overseeable distance

It really does bug me when people post “oh they don’t understand counter steering” (1/3)
When you were taught to ride a bicycle, you weren’t sat down for a physics lesson first. It’s just a fundamental you pickup (2/3)
You can’t ride a bike without counter steering. This rider didn’t forget to how to turn, they were going too fast to make a decision (3/3)
And in that “Crap! Crap! Crap” phase. Instead of looking through the exit of the corner, they looked where they didn’t want to go ...
This is called “Target fixation”. It can happen in a panic situation when you don’t have enough time (or skill) to react.
Unfortunately on a bike, you naturally ride in the direction you look. So if you lock onto that rail, you’re gonna get the rail /Rant Over
