My roommate has 3 cats 2 prefer me, andvthe 3rd one is pretty fond of me too. I let them in my room, on my bed, I feed them wet food, and I use to clean their litter boxes but not since I had a fall out with my roommate. I also have catnip.

My ex wife brought home a goofy little orange cat that turned into a massive, muscular beast of a house cat. And he loved me, not her. And it drove her crazy. He would cuddle with me without me even having to tempt him to me with food or anything. She would stare at us as the cat would sit on my lap and shake her head. "I don't get why that cat loves you so much."

My mom adopted a cat off the street. Spent a month getting him to trust her enough to walk into the house and every time I opened the door and saw her sitting on the ground outside she'd go 'He sat in my lap for x seconds this time!!!' Then Toby's in the house for less than a week and he's following me around, sleeping outside my room, snuggling with me on the couch and Mom was SO jealous. She'd spent so much effort getting him to trust her. He takes ONE look at me and goes 'MINE.'

It’s interesting how pets do that. One of my ex’s cats *immediately* preferred me to her. And that same ex had a best friend with a boxer that was usually aggressive but LOVED me. One time the owner got home after a vacation and the boxer didn’t care cause I was there. Owner was pissed lol.

My wife adopted a cat when he was 3... i met them when he was 12 and he became mine from day one. He immediately started ignoring her and her daughter and followed me everywhere. When i'd leave he'd sit by the door i left for days, and when i'd get back he'd come running to me.. he passed a couple years ago at 21. Miss that bastard every day..

I lost a best friend because his dog loved me more than him. I also told him exactly that would happen if he got a dog. I really wish he hadn't, not for losing the friend, but because now the dog has lost me and is supremely sad because of it. He's fine because he's a dog, but every time we meet, the dog does the "oh thank god you're back since you speak dog and my owner super doesn't; now we can go back to being a family!" and I have to try to explain to him that, no, that's not how humans work

The cat likes you for all the reasons you listed. Cat is over stimulated with owner. The harder the owner tries for attention, the more the cat will go to you. If you want to try to push the cat away a little so it will go to its owner, just pet it while it is chilling with you. It will likely leave after a bit. Or just enjoy the ride cuz the more you do nothing, the more the cat will prefer you.

With cats I have found for the most part the more you ignore them the more they want to be around you. Definitely the way to win over a cat is if you can put aloof them. They are like "Damn that person is cool."

Pretty much. My room mate brought home a kitten and I just ignored him. He ended up staying in my room 90% of the time because it was quiet, nobody fucked with him in there, and he could just snooze on my bed for hours without being bothered.

It's because cats are very particular about things being done on their terms and within their comfort zone. A person who avoids cats is a person who doesn't violate their consent or push their boundaries. So naturally cats tend to trust such a person who is that respectful of their space and autonomy

We’ve tried to explain ‘pats by consent’ to some of our guests and it’s so weird how they don’t understand that you need to present your hand to the cat to see if he will consent to pats, which he will signal by either pulling away or rubbing up against. It’s such a simple rule. Must be dog people.

Haha ya. It's kinda a chess move of sorts. The cat thinks it's getting one over on me but I am getting one over on it. It is the most satisfying to out aloof a cat that is pretty aloof itself. My biggest benchmark in how a cat feels about me is if it will let me touch it's paws. That is something that has to be earned over time and trust.

My friends cat hated everyone and was only nice to her. Chased people out of the house and away from her. My friend passed away 3 weeks ago from a brain tumor we found out about 8 months ago. Cat doesn't chase people out of the house anymore.

Certain kinds of eye contact. That's how cats communicate mostly. Try looking them in the eyes for 2 seconds, then while maintaining eye contact, blink slowly like you're tired and don't care. It sounds odd, but that's how you say, "you can trust me i wont hurt you" in cat.

That's probably why your cat loves her. I've seen it said that having a cat is a lesson in consent bc cats are very particular about things being done on their terms in ways they're comfortable with. A (non malicious) person who hates cats is going to avoid the cat, and by extension is not going to do a damn thing that upsets a cat or pushes their boundaries or without kitty consent. So naturally the cat will trust and love such a person that respectful of their space and boundaries

Potentially this, cats love me for some reason, I wait for them to approach me, don't pick them up, and sit incredibly still so I'm a really good perch for them. I also give the best scritches. Its probably why I seem to have a lot of luck with ladies as I use a similar approach. Doubly so for ladies with cats!
