Don't know about everywhere in the world, obviously, but I do know that all over Southeast Asia they refer to everything as a bath, even standing under a shower, faucet, pouring tubs of water on yourself, whatever, it's all a bath. So it wouldn't surprise me that there are parts of Africa where it is much the same style nomenclature, for Southeast Asia it's because it's bathing afaik

Depends on the range. I've tried a modest domestic model on myself. It got uncomfortable somewhere around 18" from my leg.
