Sorry for a sob post, but I've got nowhere else to vent. Last night my car got totaled on the way home from work. Hydroplaned and slammed into a guard rail. I wasn't even doing close to the speed limit either. I can't make it to any of my jobs now to make money, I'm worried about trying to save my house, making sure my kids stay clothed and fed, and not having my electricity shut off.
I fight on because I have to. I just don't know what I've got left to keep fighting. I can't even cry for release because the stress won't let me. I've been denied every application I've put in for help because I "make too much."
Sorry again for venting, I just needed a void to scream into.

Single dad here. I get what you're laying down. It's damn hard and you're supposed to shoulder all of it. Wish I could help.

Insurance can supply you a rental until you can get a new one. You might have to pay a bit but it should be mostly if not completely covered by your insurance company. Glad you're safe.

Hats off to anyone dealing with being a parent right now 🎩

Food Banks, use that to help offset costs. I've donated a lot of cash to them to help people in your situation or worse.

As someone close to the same position, allow me to share how I deal with things.

I’m in a similar boat, but without kids. I have nothing and keep getting hit with emergency bills. I also make “too much” to get any help, but can’t afford housing anywhere. I’m about a month away from being homeless, a month before major abdominal and thoracic surgery.
I wish I had something to offer beyond my empathy. I’m so sorry you and so many people are in this situation. I hope you can at least find some space to cry. Dms are open if you need to keep venting. 💜

Oh wow…
Shit, that sucks.
You shout into the void all you need.

Can you get a ride with one of your coworkers?

All I can say is, my single mom of 3 was there, during the 2008 crash. Now I'm grown up and make enough I could take care of my mom.
If she'd LET me. XD Too stubborn.

Your first mistake was being born in the USA. Where your life is only worth as much as the profit that can be extracted from you.
You should start a gofundme now so that you can lease a car. Or maybe try to find a co-commuter opportunity, maybe someone from where you work is able to pick you up somewhere half-way. Maybe you could also try to rent out a room or even your whole house (if you have another place you can stay for a couple days) on airbnb to make some money. Many opportunities.

Eat your dinner kids, I already eat at work
4chanrefugee
Not to sound insensitive, but have you considered selling your least favorite kid?

That’s really the only way that can sound.

Not sure I can agree with you there, sport.

Would it help if your kids knew you are stressed? Would that relieve some of your stress or add to it? If you think of your time at home with your kids as your stress-free time, would that reduce your stress so you can have the energy needed to fight?
Sorry if that didn't help, I know words aren't as effective as much as money.
bububub2
What are children supposed to do with that information? Worry sick at school?
l3ikes
To be fair, kids are not stupid. They know when things aren’t right. It depends on the age of the kids but I would at least let them know I’m dealing with extra hard challenges but still love them and we will stick together and figure it out.
bububub2
Sure, but at the same time it is not a parent's place to offload any of their grief or suffering to a child. If they know, or ask, you answer them honestly. But its not their place to worry about the roof over their head if you can help it.
