The only pic I have of the “before” - the first thing I did was remove the skirt
Checking out what I had to work with
I used two canvas dropcloths
Checking to see that my cuts were right
Hereeeere we go...little did I know that it would take a full 12 hours of actual labor
Tucking and tacking that shit
I rolled the fabric and stapled under the rolled arms to hide the staples
My hands were incredibly tired at this point. They’re a bit small for the stapler.
This proved a bit of a challenge, but I think I handled it okay - the tacks were a huge help
Halfway there!
I added some decorative piping and nails, you can see I still had some to do
12 hours later!
I’m super happy with how it turned out. Never again.
Edit for some background: I did this over 2 years ago and have used it on the daily since, and it’s held up perfectly. The couch was free, and the materials were ~$60, so I’d say I made out well on this!
AmelieWithSpoon
Sorry to say, but i hate the way this looks
katrinkabuttlin
To each their own!
DrVinnyBoomBotch
12 hours? That’s al?! You did a helluvalot in 12 hours. Good on you! +1
ZAPZAPMOTHAFUCKA
It's always a good project when you say "never again" at the end of it.
Tjally
It looks like an IKEA couch - the EKTORP! They actually sell replacement covers for it in a variety of colours but you did beat the costs!
DoABarrelRoll1
Totally digging your hardwood floors! The "New" Couch color pairs well with them
raggedrabbit
To tell you the truth, I liked it before.
Twit4Twat
Just read first and last lines: The first thing I did was removed the skirt. Am very happy how it has turned out.
kokirriborn
I'm glad you liked how it turned out, that's all that matters. It was very talented and creative.
twinrider1
Needs relief cuts and horse haaaaaaair.
tornadosandwich
Eh I would have just left it, it's not like it's one of those old floral design one
Buckbeak1486
Kind of preferred the plaid. It was a nice colour combo.
Otterbotanical
Yeah same.

Tell my wife!.... hello
SHNiKLeFRiTS
You're neutrality sickens me
CarInAVet
Finished products first.
GoddammitMrNoodle
Nice job... but it looks very uncomfortable.
katrinkabuttlin
It’s actually super comfy and fits my 5’10 bed and I really nicely! I got very lucky getting a free couch that was actually comfy.
GoddammitMrNoodle
Great! Wins all around then.
thornmallow
Damn kid! Ya dun good
katrinkabuttlin
Thanks Dad!
Cats2cats
You know they may couch covers right?
katrinkabuttlin
Of course. They’re just as expensive though, and I wanted to challenge myself!
PrettyDead13
I like it. Its pretty.

What makes a good Sofa go neutral? Lust for gold? Power? Or was it just made with a heart full of neutrality?
AnythingMuchShorter
Sometimes a good sofa just sees so much neutral in the world it can't help but see only the neutral in itself.
Stinkdog
If I don’t make it, tell my wife hello
DeltaBlast
Spending 12 hours of work on a worn out couch.. never worth it.
katrinkabuttlin
Totally worth it, since I’ve been using it for over 2 years and it’s held up perfectly!
MalcontentTroll
I feel like with the time and money spent on that.. you could of just gotten a nicer couch on craigslist for a 100 bucks...
katrinkabuttlin
Not a fan of paying for a stranger’s skin flakes in a sofa, at least I got this for free from a close friend, so it was okay.

IsThisAlreadyChosen
I saw the first photo and though, oh what a nice tartan sofa. Then you destroyed my soul, in an exceptionally talented way.
katrinkabuttlin
I’m super glad to have at least be worthy of destroying your soul!
tizoizo
@OP that sofa is an ektorp from ikea. You should be able to buy cheap slip covers for like $200 that are machine washable.

katrinkabuttlin
It’s not, though, but I suppose one of the more slipcovers might have worked. To be fair, what I did was cheap, just labor intensive.
kirosharlequin
Looks awful now, just saying. It was better before
hoodedgreen
Let's agree to disagree on that one
Sirmane
You should make one and post it here for all of us to view.....especially if it's your first time
kirosharlequin
The technique is good the choice of fabric isn't
doesanyonereallysurvivethethunderdome
That things going to show your farts real nice!
katrinkabuttlin
I’ve been farting on it for years and no one would ever know...
LynchlessMob
Nice job for a rookie. If I tried this it'd be a wasted couch.
anugg
I have a couch like this and was like yay a tutorial! But my attempt would end up with a wasted halfway done couch. Too lazy for 12 hours.
DoingItWrongSince1980
And a wasted 48 hours. The couch is cheaper.
Nekocatz13
I like it. I'm terrified of owning anything that is white fabric though, stains and wear marks show too easy! It's unfair!
DrkBluePenguin
As a gassy nuidest I would not sit on this
mugatugrows
So much for naked movie taco night...
katrinkabuttlin
Meh, it’s actually held up SO well. It’s more of a beige, so it works ????
Thejimmyjams
My puppy just chewed up my chalk markers on our tan couch. Looks like a Jackson Pollock. Never again.
TehButternaut
If what your staining it with is also white it doesnt matter

like vanilla ice-cream?
TehButternaut
Sure...
kramegame
Hi, own several white couches with 2 kids. Scotch guard, and worse case a steam cleaner, and you'll never worry about it much.
kramegame
Just got pizza stains from a sleepover out last weekend with a bit of Resolve and a quick vacuum.
