"Artificial Intelligence" is an entire branch of computer science that includes everything from pathfinding to recommender systems to natural language processing. Google Maps? AI. Spotify "For You" playlists? AI. Siri? AI.

I recommend reading "Artificial Intelligence: A Modern Approach." It is the gold standard textbook for the field. It covers mainly classical AI, like the examples I cited, and briefly discusses machine learning.

I'm old. I've heard this far too many times. I also remember "age of Aquarius" beliefs when folks were hopeful~ish. I can't accept that a technology on its own will do anything bad. It's just a tool. A % of humanity has and always will be monsters, and too many of them want and achieve power. There are mixed messages, numbers people will show the data saying we're better off now as a species than we've ever been. But with global warming starting to impact us that twill change. This is it - under end-stage capitalism then yes, AI is the end. We need to understand that we are in a post-scarcity world and stop acting like there isn't enough for everyone. And, yes, I mean that quite literally - every person suffering WORLDWIDE is a policy decision, not a lack of resources. Otherwise, old men dreaming of empires will be the death of us all regardless of AI.
